K6A Rough Idle Down Fix

    Recently put a throwout bearing in my DA62T. Immediately following that job, the truck would idle down roughly and almost die before it would correct itself. Basically, once the truck got to normal oper temp and I would come to an intersection, where I had to stop completely, it would idle so rough everything would shake and the truck would almost die then resume normal idle. If I revved (sp?) the engine it ran fine but would show the problem when it idled down. . Naturally I though I did something wrong putting the tranny back, but it would do it independently of the clutch being engaged or not.

    Since I disconnected the battery for the 7 hours it took me to do the bearing, I assumed it lost its programming and was having to re-learn how to run at idle. This has been going on for at least 2 weeks without getting better (probably not the re-learning theory I first had). Yesterday I took it in to have a new muffler installed since I noticed it was so ate up when I did the throwout bearing. As a matter of fact one of the guys helping showed me how bad the muffler was by poking some of the corrosion with a screwdriver.

    Presto! The new muffler fixed it immediately. Guess there was enough blow-out to screw up the back pressure at idle and the computer was trying to correct it each time. Just my theory, but whatever reason, it's fixed.

    I just put a new muffler on my 1999 Carry BD52T back in the summer. It was getting in pretty bad shape. I wasn't having any problems with the truck running rough, but I'm sure that I may have had some issues if I hadn't got the muffler replaced. My truck is fuel injected too. It is amazing how much quieter it is now than before. I'm glad that a new muffler fixed your problem.

    I knew that you were looking for a throw out bearing. Where did you end up getting one located?

    I got the bearing rom G&R. Waited about 5 weeks since it had to be ordered from Japan, then I found out it was the same as another "older" mini truck using the NTN Bearing site. G&R had it in stock. I paid $89.00 plus shipping plus handling. I understood the shipping, but the handling? I really didn't want anyone handling my bearing and when I got it, it was still sealed in the box, so I am not sure why I had to pay a handling fee. I am sure the $89.00 was marked up considerably since I could have got it for $39 elsewhere, but I needed it and ordered it from them so I stood wih that. Anyway I look at it, I needed the bearing and they got it for me, so I am happy. Had it in a couple of days after that.

    Now that I replaced that bearing I can hear others. Kinda what you get after 103,000 KM. I am thinking now it is just an idler bearing or the alternator. Either one is fairly easy to get at allied bearing. I am hoping it is not the a/c compressor bearing, that would be a different story.

    Even though my truck has a lot of miles, it is tight, appears to have great compression, and does not leak a drop of anything or burn a drop of oil.

    I know what you mean about the shipping and handling fee. It is a bit of a stretch. I think the air filter that I needed for my truck was right at $50 after the $16 S&H fees, but it was in stock. With that said, G&R was the only ones that I found that could gaurantee the correct filter for my 99' Suzuki and they shipped it right out.     I am willing to pay for the convenience of being able to find and get something that I need to keep my truck in good working order. I ordered a set of used head lights from G&R back in the summer after damaging one on the trail and replacing the other one that was cracked when I bought my truck. That set me back $225 for the pair with S&H, but they had them in stock and I jumped on it. I was operational again in a short time. The parts for these trucks are not very cheap, but you are paying for the efforts of a few to try their best to keep those parts available when we need them. That is how I justify it to myself to pay the money.
