possible choke problem?

Does the '93 Daihatsu have a choke? When I start the truck, the rpms are so low, it will barely run, rather than running a little fast when choked. After it warms up, it runs too fast............like it should be doing when cold:confused:

    Anyone else having that problem?

I had the same problem on my '89 model, bad choke; a rebuilt carb solved my issue. A temporary solution to ease starting is to unplug one or two of the vacuum hoses ontop the intake manifold before you start it. Crank it up and let it warm up for a few minutes and then plug the hoses back in before you drive away. This provided a higher RPM and smoothed out the idle while warming up without the choke; fairly quickly. Make sure the idle is adjusted to the proper idle RPM for a warm engine. Hope this helps.

According to OEM spec for my engine, typical warm idle is 900RPM +/- 50.

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the kit to rebuild the carb??? Do you get to the intake Man. from the plate in the bed, or by lifting the seat?

Access is from the cover panel in the bed, the vacuum hoses are right on top. I was unable to get a "rebuild kit" from Daihatsu, only new carbs were available; so I rebuilt the carb from pieces and parts of two and half used carbs. Since then I have seen rebuild kits offered, however I do not know what is included. Installing a used carb might be easier, I have seen these available often and the carbs are pretty easy to take off and put back on; two bolts and throttle cable.

I think one of the members here was selling a carb not too long ago for cheap. His member name is larryn20. Might want to look him up.

    choke idle problem

when I got my 96 carry I had a the same kinda problem. Any auto parts store has SEA FOAM. This stuff works on every type of engine. We use it in all our equipment. It cured the problem. Might try it before you rebuild the carb.

I've never used this product but have heard of very good results. Never was a fan of the so called "Mechanic in a bottle" but might be worth a try.

Sea Foam works well to clean the fuel/ induction system and carbon in the head, sometimes this is all thats needed. I use it often with regular maintanence. However, old well used carbs often require more than a liquid wonder.
