well hope to get on in here like i do on the mercedes forum i frequent. must get another one.

anyway to the point, what is the average cruising suggested speed and what is the average top speed achieved in these little toy vans.

    thanks jason/liz

keep the pedal down and the radio up so you don't hear the motor screaming. they are built to rev and will do so upon demand... really. i find that i lose some gas mileage when i'm running it at 140kph on the hiway, but it will do it all day long. and since these motors are built to rev, they tend to behave badly when you bog them and short shift them. i'm not saying each shift should be on the rev limiter, but don't be afraid to run the gears out.

    top speed of the acty's

Like brother Milt I agree that the little darlings are built to rev. I find that mine (1984, 2 cylinder) is comfortable at around 80- 90 km/h, although I have buried the needle 140 sounds like it may be about right.I try to stay off the highways as well, don't want to cheese off the big rigs and I'm never in a hurry to get where I'm going that and I'm afraid to pick up a rock in the windshield. I sure hope your Mrs. enjoys her ride.

  4. The Honda 550cc up to late 1980's had a 100 KPH speed warning and a 110 kph cut off. Anything over that and your risking the tranny blowing apart. (Been there done that). The engine can take the rev's but not the driveline. Its hot a highway star...LOL.

    Cheers,
    Don

    Highway Star it aint

My warning indicator, I call it my Jan signal after my wife " Slow down michael, slow down michael and on and on, comes on at about 90kph. But like brother Milt says turn up the radio. It is a lot like tuning out my wife lol. As for the 140km/h I was just estamating the speed.

I agree. Especially if the Acty is the all wheel drive. You'll see your fuel economy disappear altogether running 100-110kmh.
I have a subaru auto w/all wheel drive all the time and I've seen numbers as low as 20mpg average on a tank.

So I'd keep it no higher than 90kmh.

i took my '83 van to 120k down a hill... it was scary
they cruise well at 90, just move over when there is a truck coming the other way
