What Short Stubby Radio Fits??

Discussion in 'Daihatsu Hi jet' started by Northern Tire and Auto, Dec 3, 2008.

  1. I took the stock radio out and wow that's a short radio? What will fit in a '93 Daihatsu? Nothing fancy just would like FM at least.

    Short Chassis radio

As far as I know, having looked just about everywhere, there is no short chassis radio available. Anything you can get today will stick out of the dash at least 1.5 inches. Fortunately there are extension covers available to hide the chassis. I would love to know if somebody out there has found one.

i seem to recall that several peopl mounted it in the dash above the glove box. not really my cup of tea to cut up the dash but i imagine you could make look pretty nice. i have a 99 and i put a standard single din in the stock spot even though the one i pulled out was stubby.

I was going to try to find a Din storage tray to replace my radio. Then I will either install an overhead console made for golf carts or put a radio in the glove box.[IMG]

My Hijet came with a radio/CD player installed in a console sitting in front of the gear shift lever. This ugly thing includes two cup holders. The original radio was left unconnected in place.

I mounted my radio on the dash. I broke some 26ga sheet metal and welded tabs on the sides and mounted it to the dash. I took a bit of time to get it to fit right to the contours of the dash. There was a trim plate that I took off so the radio would fit into the dash.

Iam sorry everyone but I think we need to recyle this thread. Iam curently looking to CUSTOMIZE my 83 ACTY VAN. EVERYTHING is GREAT but the intereior of the roof has had its original Vinyl pulled off with not much luck. Some is still there and its stick and nasty. So Since Iam looking to put some audio into it I thought WELL lets use some of that DEAD SPACE above the driver and passenger seat. NOW the system to be used is VERY SIMPLE> I will use an IPOD That will drive a Four channel amp powering some SPEAKERS at the front some Speakers (prolly 6x9's fitted ion the back or even in the back facing down from the roof? and a link from that amp to another FUSION JL monoblock that will power a Fusion JL SUB ina BEVA box. The sub can be taken in and out if i need the space but the rest is pretty permanant. Now I have had a few I deas but want it to look good.

I would assume that I will be constructing this console from MDF and then putting that black carpet stuff around it once its the way it should be. Some speakers up the front as part of that console would be just right and I BELEIVE I could JUST get my SONY ampy UPSIDE down so the Additional Frequency controls and LED VU meteres are facing down on me. I want to put it in the middle above the rear view mirror fitted to some sort of custom console so all the cabling is HIDDEN and the lights indicating its power and the knobs will make driving the van the equivalant of flying a commerical airliner. OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT. A lead will discreetly run to the middle console between the driver and passenger seat where I will prolly sit the ipod or something. NOW ANY ADVICE on how to build this OR PERHAPS maybe buying one of thos GOLD ONES as shown here and customising it may really be useful. look forward to any advice on how to customise the interior. THERE Is no rush and look forward to any input provided. Thanks again.

ADDITIONAL THERE WILL BE NO DRILLING THROUGH THE ROOF!

    Thanks

I mounted mine on the headliner just behind the rear view mirror. Mounted speakers in the doors. Used a headliner mount for the stereo. Fits great and sounds very good. Also looks like it should be there. Mounted antenna behind right door. You can pick this mount up at walmart or radio shack. About 20.00 bucks.

How to upload pictures [there is more than one way to do it]

Step One: Open a seperate window or tab in your browser from your reply [or post] that you want to put the picture in.

Step Two: Go to this link http://www.imagelinky.com/
    {This was put in place by Kevin to simplify uploading pictures at full rez}

Step Three: Using the "browse" button on the above web page navigate to were the picture is on your computer.

    For Windows XP:

Sample path: If the pictures are in "My Pictures" folder that is located inside "My Documents" folder.

When you click on the "Browse" button it brings up a new window, along the left hand side are some tabs.
Click on "My Documents", then double click the "My Pictures" folder from the list.
Now you either pick the next folder your pictures are located in or the picture itself depending on how you store them.

Once you have found the picture you want to upload just click the "upload" button.

Step Four: After the picture has uploaded you will see the page has three items on it.

Direct Link, Link & Forum Link - Use this last one for best results.

Cut and paste the whole line [from "forum link"] into your reply - make sure you get the whole thing when you cut and paste as the line can be long.

Step Five: Finish your reply or post and preview or submit reply if all ok.

Your post should have the picture at full size of the orginal this way.

I really like that over head console idea - wish I had thought or known of that I installed mine in the glove box - out of sight, out of mind.

My stereo is remote control. Easy to use even mounted on the headliner of my mini. Speakers mounted in the doors I think they could actually blow you out of the cab when cranked up. By the way I think the system was about a hundred bucks.
