Just spoke with my tag agency and they said all tag agencies will be closed on Oct 9th for a meeting to teach them about the steps of registration/tagging of mini-trucks for Nov 1st. So after Oct 9th we will be able to find out what all we will need and the steps we will be taking for registration.

  2. That's excellent news! Keep us posted. While I'm in TX, I've got customers in OK, so I like to at least have some knowledge of the process. I try not to be a complete idiot! :)

My tag agent just called me and said they did have a meeting yesterday and will begin issuing tags Nov 1 (actually Nov 3 due to weekend). They will only require a bill-of-sale and the Oklahoma Title application. He said they do not need nor do they want the export certificate. The great news is that I can tag it under my farm for 37.50. If I tag it personal it is still only 82.50.

He also said that there will be no late penalty for people who bought them more than 30 days ago since the tags are just now available. My guess is that if you wait more than 30 days after 11-1-08 you will be assessed a penalty.

im guessing that the Oklahoma Title Application is a form that the tag office will have?

Yes, they will provide that application for you. I am kinda curious to see if they will tag the mini vans that are coming over. Not the deck vans but the true vans without a bed. The law states that the mini truck must have a bed. Not sure why, but that was in the bill.

Yeah, I checked with my agency too. Your bill of sale must be notarized though and you will need a mileage disclosure with signatures (and proof of insurance). But other than that, you'll be good to go. So it doesn't sound like too big of a problem or fussy paperwork.

well my bill of sale is not notarized. wonder how big a deal it will be to fix that? miliage disclosure? whats that, just a piece of paper at the tag office?

Yes, you get the mileage disclosure at the agency. (it is special paper, but note that some dealers have the mileage on the bill of sale. If your mileage is listed on the bill of sale, then you won't need the mileage disclosure form)
Then you take it (the disclosure paper) to the dealer and you both sign it.

As for notarization: not a big deal to fix. I just went back to the dealer and they have a lady there that can notarize that just notarized my bill of sale and signed it the same date as when the purchase was made.

thats my problem. the guy i bought it from dont have a storefront. he has a friend in japan pick his trucks and he sells them out of his yard.

Well, there usually are several people who have the license to notarize due to business transactions/paperwork that need it.
So if you ask around you just need to find someone with the license to notarize. They do not have to be associated with the dealer.
Usually your local real estate company would know a notary, so you might give them a call and see who they use. You may have to pay a fee for the service.

    Here's the bill...

    "Imported mini-truck" means a foreign manufactured import vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine with a piston or rotor displacement of six hundred sixty cubic centimeters (660 cu cm) or less, which is sixty (60) inches or less in width, with an unladen dry weight of one thousand six hundred (1,600) pounds or less, traveling on four (4) or more tires, having a top speed of approximately fifty-five (55) miles per hour, equipped with a bed or compartment for hauling, and having an enclosed passenger cab;

I spoke to the folks over at Tiger Truck in Poteau. The vans will be legal as well. If your tag agent won't do it, just find one with a higher IQ. :D

This will bode well for my little truck. Anyone in OK who wants one already "set up" as a highway truck, won't need to deal with TXDOT's BS with the voided title on mine. Cool.

howa bout a temp tag? wonder when we could get one of those? if we found the right tag office we might be able to get one now. that way we would have a start on the tag process in case there are problems come Nov 3rd.

Latest information: You have to already have your mini-truck insured before you can register. Proof of insurance from your current insurance/vehicles is not enough.
So start insurance shopping now if you plan on being able to drive yours Nov 3rd.

I took my bill of sale paper by the tag office today for a quick look to see if everything was ok. It had the milage, truck numbers and price I paid and was nortized. They said all was ok. I bought insurance from Okla farmers union ins co for $54.00 for 6 months, exactlly the same amount for all my other farm trucks. Now I need the 1st of Nov to hurry up and get here. ps..I took my papers to the tag office in Haskell, Ok., Muskogee county.

Thanks for the information. If you don't mind me asking, what type of trucks are your other farm trucks? Because my Ram costs me a heck of a lot more to insure than $54 every 6 months.
My insurance (AAA) won't insure mini-trucks so I am looking around for insurer who will insure it yet not over-price.

I have a 93 chevy, 96 ford, 89 IHC semi, Hi Jet 94, . You must have your home ins with them also to get this price. Everything I own, home, trucks, tractors ect are with them for a big discount on everything insured. I am 66 yrs old with no wrecks or tickets against me. I farm/ ranch and all trucks have a farm tag. I use Hobbs Ins in Haskell, Okla for all my ins, also they are right next door to the tag office that has agreed to work with owners of mini trucks to get a tag. If you need to talk to me call me anytime on my cell....918-6855099 ray allen, Boynton, Okla.

    A little off topic, but.....
I got my insurance last week through State Farm and it is $122.00 every six months. SF will only let you get Liability since parts are not ready available for these trucks. This was in Mississippi.

Hey again, State Farm here said they will be able to insure, but can't say how much till Nov 3rd. Right now if they insured, they'd only insure as an ATV, which isn't good enough for on-road.
Progressive said they would insure, but it would be $900 every six months!!! (full cov)
And $350 every six months for min. liability.

So I'm going to wait and see what State Farm quotes come Nov 3rd.
If that doesn't work, then Ray Allan, I'll be calling.

If anyone is looking for insurance try farm bureau. It was the cheapest for me and they will gladly insure a mini truck.

I am an agent for Progressive here in OK (along with almost every other agent) and have been writing the mini trucks for about a month. Right now I don't think it is very competetive ($359 / six months for 100/300/100 and $5,500 comp/coll). They will not write "liability only" at this time because we have to insure it for stated amount. Maybe once their system can recognize the VIN that will change. I don't think $359 is a very good deal, but then on the other hand, it is better than nothing. Most of my personal auto companies are not planning on writing these trucks.

I just got my bill for my ins. It is for 100,000-300,00-100,00. It cost me 56.00 for 6 months instead of 54.00. You all may wish to check with okla farmers union ins co. This is liability ins only. ray allen

I called your insurance up Ray and they said they will not insure a mini-truck unless they get to insure all of my vehicles. So they won't mess with ya unless they get your complete business.
I'll go with either state farm or farm bureau locally.

In preparation for Nov 1 I called USAA for insurance. Liability for six months is $112. I'm going to place a call to Farm Bureau and see what they will do.

Stopped by the tag agancy and got their interpretation of what I need. She didn't know a lot so she called the head office. At first she said I'd need to bring the vehicle by to have the vin (serial #) checked but when she read it again it said you had to do that "if brought in from another state)

So Monday I'll be in line first thing for my tag. I'd do it on Sat but have a bio-diesel class I'm going to.

    What she said I needed.

    Bill of sale
proof of insurance on the truck
    milage affidavid

Looking forward to getting a tag on it.

I got liability and comp from Foremost Ins. $79 per year.
My own Ins. Co. wouldn't cover it off premises.

Just got my insurance today that will be effective Nov 1st. Got it through State Farm and it all went really well. They seem to know their stuff on mini-trucks. Cost me $205.00 every 6 months for liability.
Checked with tag agency and all is in order and I will have a tag on Monday the 3rd!
    :)
