they classify them as motorcycles, that alleviates a lot of the FMVSS standards applied to "cars". i would feel like a complete dousche bag driving one wearing a helmet to comply with motorcycle laws... good grief what is this world coming to? :frustration:

I understand about the m/c category, but it's STILL not a m/c. I know HOW they've done it, it just PISSES/ME/OFF that they'll go out of their way to license THOSE!!!!!!! It's a Kei truck with one frt wheel missing! If they're gonna' license those, Kei's should be licensed as well. At least we have the stability of 4 wheels. Wait till somebody has a crash in one of THOSE dorkmobiles, going 70 mph!

That tears it for me....the first Cop that trys to stop me for my SMV sign, I'm gonna' outrun the SOB!:D

BTW, we don't have mandatory helmet laws, but that would be a riot....I reckon some doofus will be seen wearing one, sooner or later!

i totally agree that they are unstable and an accident waiting to happen. but for some reason 2 or 3 wheels is a motorcycle and 4 or more is a car... unless it's a quad then it's an atv... and atv's are for off road, and my truck was imported for off road use but i can't register it as an atv or a car... geeze that makes perfect sense :frustration:

It's actually a guy from the U.S., that is getting it produced in China

They know dang well that he's skirting the standards by going to a LESS safe/stable 3 wheel config..... yet they're passing it!!!!!:frustration::frustration::frustration:

Gawd, I feel like strangling a Politician again!!!!!!!!

  7. milt doesn't wear the helmet because of the law he wears it because of the soft spot LOL :D.................JUST JOKING MILT

no worries freemont, i always wear my helmet on the short bus!! and i usually win in the "rock-back-and-forth-and-drool" competition.

honestly though how ridiculous is it wearing a helmet inside a cab limiting your vision and having your head sweat while the a/c is running? i would feel like i was on the short bus.

If you watch the video, just before the half way point when they start interviewing the Nathan guy, you'll see a KEI truck just off his shoulder in the background to the left. A Suzuki?

I'm a big fan of trikes (but of the 2 in front, one in rear type like the SUB 3 WHEELER ) but am also totally frustrated that we can't have a clause in the laws of the land to allow Kei vehicles. Not everyone is going to want a 660cc car as a daily commuter so I don't think you're going to suddenly have millions of people running down the interstate with them getting squashed. :frustration: Just let us have some more options for getting around town or the farm.

I too saw the KEI truck in the background. I does seem ridiculous for any state to ban mini trucks. I have been driving mine all over south MS and LA and have the police just wave at me. This being that LA only approved these for road-use a few weeks ago. It has to be political, for what other reason could they be outlawed. Damned politicians, vote them all out.

    Tuk tuk FTW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto_rickshaw
    That's basicly what that is.
    Pretty sad state of affairs.
Maybe they [lawmakers] will back themselves into a corner on this,
at somepoint [after they have legalized riding lawn mowers] they are going
to look even more pathetic than they do right now

You have to love this quote from the wiki page on tuk tuk's:

They have lots of models, each uglier than the one before!:D

from their home page::: Quote:< The original Tuk Tuks started in the 50's with NO reported accidents as of yet worth noting. With 50 years of History used in all types of conditions and loads, the Tuk Tuk survives !!!! end quote<

If these 3 wheelers take off, it very well may be a good thing for Kei trucks, but I'd be ashamed to get my Carry plated 'cuz of one of those things!

Wow! That was fun...I think it really belong to a tricycle family. It's not really a truck!

  14. Here is their sales flyer. My mechanic saw one the other day at the tire shop near here and talked with the guy about it. Apparently the competition is moving in!

I might try to track down the guy to see if I can drive one.

I agree with everyone else....how ridiculous! I love the 3 wheeled concept, as Acerguy noted, 2 in front and 1 in rear. The Can-AM Spyder in production looks cool if I couldn't ride a motorcycle, and the Volkswagen GX3 concept that nearly made it to production would have convinced me to start selling plasma and Kidneys if they'da built it.

But this is insane. Completely unstable, although that mule photoshopped into the bed probably really helps to lower the center of gravity after it drops a steaming pile of mule poo....

Dang, that thing is even uglier than I remembered. Yuck!

It makes that mule look downright sexy!

Instead of a spare tire they throw in a free mule with every purchase :D
No matter how I try to get my head around it I cannot see how anybody could ok
one of these death traps for the road yet say in the same breath say that it is not ok
to license a kei truck for the road.
Just makes absolutely no sense at all no matter how I slice or dice it.

OOOps, you're in Canada.....that was for U.S. lawmakers only!!! Although I'd bet Govt. Officials everywhere become an idiot after sworn into office.
