Yup... I think the time has come for me to part ways with the little truck. I'm getting sick of constantly defending my right to travel - need something a little more legal. :frustration:

    1990 Subaru Sambar 4WD
    $4,200 OBO
    Located near St. Cloud, MN

    - top speed ~75 MPH
    - 30-35 MPG
    - four wheel independent suspension
    - 660cc SOHC (8 valve)
    - 5 speed manual transmission
    - pushbutton 4WD

    Modifications:
    - Semperit Winter-Grip 175/65-14 on (4x100mm) American Racing wheels (less than 1000 miles on these)
    - Toyota Previa roof rack (shortened ~4 feet, narrowed ~6 inches) with four Peterson driving lights (not functional yet - I ran the wiring inside the cab, haven't had the time/motivation to pull the dash and install all the relays, flashers, switches, etc to make them wig wag, which was my plan.)
    - Sony xplod CDMP3 deck
    - Radioshack CB with stubby lil antenna behind the cab (short range)
    - Wagner Truview sealed beams - proper LHD orientation.
    - STi stickers :D

    Crap You Oughtta Know:
    - I'm 6'4", 300lbs and I fit kinda alright. Most people seem to fit in this truck just fine.
    - Last winter, I adjusted the valve lash too wide, lost oil pressure, and toasted the original engine. I put in a used engine (with a later EFI style head, which supposedly flows better.) The new engine burns a little oil - it might need valve stem seals. I haven't run a leakdown test on it, but the dealer I bought the engine from said it had great compression. Seems to run strong.
    - May or may not be street legal in Minnesota (on city streets and county roads) with a Class II ATV registration. I'm in the process of creating some case law, trying to avoid a $380 fine for "use of an unregistered motor vehicle," despite registering it as an ATV. Beware The Man. :frustration:

I coated the floor with some rubberized 3M stuff, but it's wearing off around the pedals.

    Nooooooo!

Colin, say it ain't so! :( Sounds like the exact same stuff that Milt is going through. Dang.

I'd love your truck but don't have that scratch. I do have a bunch of large red oak saw logs I just cut though. :p Don't know if you need that for the mushroom business. :D

Haha... nah, I'm good on the red oak front. :p

I could use an M35 truck in trade, though... minimog's "bobbed deuce" has got the wheels in my head turning. It's more legal than the Sambar, yet it would piss off the cops even more! Twofer! :D

Yeah, I have to admit that the bobbed deuce is pretty cool.

Yeah. And for the amount of driving I (don't) do, it's perfect. My situation lends itself to having way too many impractical toys: I work for my dad, live on the farm, and commute ~200 yards. I take the Ruckus to work in the summer and ye olde '72 Arctic Cat in the winter. I wouldn't mind having a big, burly 10 MPG truck as long as I'm not relying on it for day-to-day transportation. :D

Colin, sorry to hear that the situation has come to this for you. I just hope you don't wind up starting a TukTuk 3-wheeler forum:D I'm thinking you would play hell doing a stoppie in one of those. Actually they prob would be a hoot with their 660cc mits engine at approx 1100lbs. But for the money - yeah I would be thinking Bobber.

Before you sell, just thinking here (scary):sly: have you thought about sourcing a set of 1983 seatbelts?....hmmm......later, slim

Haha... Not a bad idea, but then my registration would say 1983 and my insurance paperwork would say 1990... unless I were to tell the insurance guys it was an '83, in which case my coverage might be dropped in the event of a claim.

I'd much rather have the state not be a bunch of asshats, and allow me to register it for what it is. :frustration:

I was thinking of building a custom frame and doing an engine swap, then registering it as a kit car. I really don't need another huge project right now, though - between rebuilding my vintage snowmobile, engine-swapping two scooters, and fixing the Merkur, I've got my hands full for the time being. :D
