Cattle Stacks

does anyone else in arizona want to run a cattle stack style exhaust on their mini?

i went by the muffler shop today and they guy actually had a set of stacks that fit these trucks perfectly. he ordered them in a while back for a customer that never showed and wants to get rid of them for cost. he quoted me $140 for a small muffler a U-bend and the smoke stack installed... he really wants to get rid of them as a set. he has the mounts, guards and everything for them. so if anyone was interested i've got an appointment for first thing tomorrow morning.

i was thinking about putting the second stack on the driver's side of the truck just for symetry, but i don't know yet, i would really like to run a snorkle intake on that side.

Who says you can't run the dummy stack as a snorkel?

I have always thought twin chrome stacks and dual rear wheels would look cool, but it would not be very practical. You really don't want the exhaust next to the cab for several reasons. Heat noise and vibration are just a few.

it took about 2.5 hours to do this... what a chore.

we used rubber mounts to keep it from vibrating too much. it's bolted to the floor of the bed, and to the little headache rack on the back of the cab. it's stable but doesn't shake against the sheet metal or rattle.

we tried it with no muffler thinking the cat would keep the noise down pretty well... started it up and it sound ok at an idle, a little bit like a kazoo but not too bad. given any throttle at all it made some noise and at cruising rpm it sounded like it was pissed off. i'm sure my neighbors would have formed a militia against me leaving for work at 5am.

a glass pack was not enough to quiet it down since it's straight through, so we ended up putting a 2" muffler in there and it sounds pretty nice. a little bit of a rumble but over all not too loud cruising around town. the freeway on the the other hand is a totally different story... it's LOUD. i have to roll up the windows or it sounds like a little cesna is following beside you on the road.

all in all, i'm pleased with it... i'll get some pix in little while and post them on here. i think it looks pretty cool

i was going to run the second stack as a snorkle, but didn't have anyway to cap it off to keep water and stuff from going down it and flooding my engine, i need to go by the truck shop and see what they have before i commit to the other stack on there.

oh, yeah, on another note... you know the guys on the harleys with the super loud exhaust? yeah, my pipe sits right at face level with them... what goes around comes around, right?

it's all small tubing going to it with a big flare to fill it out. it echo's inside the stack A LOT! before we hooked it up i ran the truck with nothing but the cat and it was louder than stock but not terrible... but the stack amplified it so much it was absurd.
