Hi all, I have a 94 Carry DD51T. I'm having some problems that I suspect is related to carb or vacuum but I'm not too experienced with this so I'd appreciate your input. The truck starts when cold. It will idle and warm up with the foot off the gas, although somewhat erratically. After about 3-5 mins it quits and won't restart. Well it sometimes starts but either quits straight away or idles and then quits. If you push the gas pedal it quits. Other symptoms (possibly unrelated) - smells like gas when driving, especially when coasting. Idles erratically even when warm. Seems to use quite a bit of gas but I don't know a normal l/100km. TIA, JC
So when its cold, its running on the choke circuit which appears to be working ok. When hot coolant hits the choke it cuts off and you are now running on the pilot or idle circuit. Sounds like its running rich so it could be the needle is getting stuck in the bowl or the pressure of the fuel supply is too high. Verify the fuel pressure to rule that out and then its basically an internal issue with the carb. Probably needs a good cleaning. You can try putting Seafoam through it and using carb cleaner spray all over the inside to see if it helps before pulling the carb. Also make sure theres no vacuum leaks of course.
Thanks for the response. I don't have a gauge to check the fuel pressure, so for now I'll try cleaning the carb. If that doesn't work I'll try and allocate some time to pull the carb. Thank you.
