Daihatsu Wiring Diagram Needed

The interior map light in my 1994 Daihatsu HiJet has gone out. The light works on a battery, so there must be a short in the wiring. All of the fuses in the fuse box work. Is there a hidden in-line fuse? Does anyone have a wiring diagram or advice on how I can find the short?

    Thanks,

    Jim

If the light works when you connect a battery, it is not a short, it is an "open". Trace the wire on the map light back to the power source.

I just discovered that my 1993 Hijet also has an interior light just above the rear view mirror. It has never been on since I got the truck in February. I removed the plastic cover and then the bulb, which is either a C5W 12V5W or something very similar to it. (When I researched bulbs, it appeared that the C5W was the same shape as mine and the same watts, but a quarter of an inch longer--but it might work anyway.)

When I examined the bulb, I saw that it seemed to be OK. Then I turned my attention to the switch on top of the tiny lamp. The switch seemed to be in the middle position and I couldn't move it right or left. Eventually I was able to move it. I inserted the bulb and--eureka--it lit up--for a second, then it went out and all my lights went out. Jim, the fuse for all the lights is on the fuse panel under the right side of the dash. The fuse is 20A and is the second from the right on the top row. When I pulled the fuse with needle nose pliers, I saw that it was blown. I replaced it with a new one but now the headlights didn't work although other lights did. I had jarred the wiring harness enough to disconnect the headlights. A little push and all was well. It seems that the wiring harness connection is precariously loose and needs to be secured better. Perhaps some duct tape would help. It would not be good to suddenly lose all lights while driving down a dark road.

When the interior light switch is to the left, it lights up with door open; middle is off; and right is on all the time. I plan to leave my switch in the off position to avoid accidentally running down the battery and keep extra fuses in the glove compartment. By the way, the bracket on the left side of the cab--said to be for holding a road flare--is the right size for holding a small flashlight.

Here is the fuse arrangement in my truck, which lacks AC:

    top row, left to right:

    1. empty 2. wiper/15A 3. lamps/20A 4. horn/15A

    lower row, left to right:

    5. heater/20A 6. engine/10A 7. empty 8. accessories/15A

Also, you may check to see if the plastic breakaway screws that hold the mirror/light assembly have loosened or broken. The bracket must be secured to provide a ground since the screws are plastic. Ask me how I know. I had one of the screws (the one opposite the ground point on the back of the mounting surface) that was broken when I joined the Hijet world a few weeks ago. I replaced the plastic ones with metal. Cured. Oh, by the way, I'm new to the site and this forum is GREAT! I look forward to being a Hijet (92 S81 4WD Liftpick/Tipper) owner.
