how the heck do you get the seats off the engine lid?!?! :frustration: i've looked at them a couple times in my hijet and can't figure it out. the passenger seat doesn't move and the drivers seat only slides so far and then stops, i have to get these out of here and get them reupholstered. 105+ temps and vinyl seats are a bad combination. i'm sure it's simple and i'm just missing it, someone enlighten me please
I'm not familiar with Hijets, but they have to be bolted on somehow. Did you look underneath the engine lid? I'm guessing there are bolts running up from there.
umm, in the one i looked in today there is buckles to unlatch. they would be between your legs if you were sitting in the seat and about 3" or so down from the seat. might be under some covering.
mine has 1 rail that stays on the seat and the other is welded to the cover . i unbolted the one welded to the seat and slid the seat off the rail welded to the cover . not sure if all this sounded just like i meant it to! .
My 99 has this latch. Then you fold the back forward using a lever by the seat belt latch and the whole seat bottom lifts up. Then you can use the black strap attached to the headrest to hold the seat up out of the way. -Greg
it seems i have been misunderstood on my question... i know how to get the seats UP to get to the motor... i need to know how to get them OFF, our OUT of the truck to weld up a broken frame and take them to the upholstery shop for some much needed cushion work. cheers Milt
Some of the replies got me off topic. I looked at mine and the seat doesn't come off the lid. Its welded, at least thats what I saw on the passenger side. Just take the two bolts at the hinge and pull the whole seat out. Any decent upholstery shop should be able to work with whats there. Just my $.02 -Greg
Seats The passenger seat has four bolts under the engine cover. The driver's seat you undo the two bolts underneath on the left hand side and it slides forward.
i found four bolts on for my driver's seat sliders to get it off the lid. it was just so dark and dirty under there, and the bolts are kinda recessed. but the passenger seat is welded right to the engine lid. thanks for the help everyone.
