Hello group new here.i have few questions…
On my 1991 attack all time 4wd I have a UL gear and a diff lock in there. Once I press the diff lock can I use UL gear ? I am asking because my truck starts matching a mechanical hiss while it’s in gear ? Should I worry or it should sound like that? Also. Can the diff lock be used without the UL gearing ? Like if I’m going through mud or dirt in regular gears ? And when engaging any of this should the dash board let me know I have engaged diff lock? I know for new years it does. But I’m not sure if in the 1991 where I don’t even have a RPM gage if it’s suppose to light up anything letting me know Diff lock is engaged besides the button turning on green on the button. Thank you. And I hope someone can help.

I've got a 96 Attack. There is a vacuum activator on the rear diff. Is the hiss you hear a vacuum leak?

I've been told the diff lock only works in UL and UR, but mine works in any gear.

I have a '92 Attack, and the rear diff. lock will ONLY work in UL/UR. There's a small greenish light that turns on in the instrument cluster when the diff. lock is on. However, my light doesn't always turn on with switch. You can however hear it engage via an audible click in the rear end when you press the button.

Yeah all I hear is air leak and that light does not turn on in my cluster

Hey, I was wrong. About 15 seconds after I put it in 1st (not UL) the green light on the dash goes out. So it only locks in in UL and UR..
Okay Eddyn, If I remember correctly there's a wart the size of a softball on the trans/diff on the passenger side where the half shaft comes out, with a vacuum diaphragm. I've never looked any farther into it but I'm guessing the button on the dash controls a vacuum switch that operates the vac to the diff lock. I don't imagine that tracing the vac lines is going to be fun.
