I just bought a new MINICAB and I am trying to make sense of the numbers on the vehicle plate.

    Model is : U15D011FDL2M
    Model U15 makes sense, but what is U15D ? I was expecting a T instead of a D.
Anything to be learned from the rest of the number?

    Engine is 3G81
Is this the 550 cc 3 cylinder engine?

If anybody can confirm my understanding or add to it, it will be appreciated.

U15 is an indication it is a 4WD model, U14 is the 2WD version.
D indicates it is a Dump type straight from the factory, T is ordinary trucks with no dump.
The 011 part I have no idea on, usually it would indicate what type of roof, and body it has on a T model coded version there, with two letters.

F in the model code indicates it is a 4-speed manual.
D after that indicates it has doors, door glasses, and windshield. If it was S it would indicate it had no doors, no windshield. M for no doors but windshielded.
L indicates the location of the steering wheel to be on the left.
2 indicates Destination, which is Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America in this case
M indicates the maker is Mitsubishi, rather than some third party.

3G81 is indeed the engine model, 550CC 3-cylinder, called "Cyclone". Previous 550CC engine was the Vulcan II, 2G23.
