Hey all! So I got a 90' SDX Auto. Truck is amazingly clean and has only 15kms. Starts up fine, revs fine. Ive done a lot of general maintenance such as new plugs, new air and oil filter, changed oil and coolant, rebuilt alternator, changed battery and rebuilt the carb. However, and I'm not sure if its just in my head or whatever, but the truck runs incredibly slow. It eventually gets up to maybe 40-ish mph, but there are several other Kei trucks that live near me and I see them ripping it up and down the road. I know mines is an auto trans, but still, something doesn't seem right. Part of me feels like I'm chasing my own tail while the other half feels that there is definitely an issue... Anyone else with an auto Acty living life in the slow lane? well, slower than normal I suppose...
I have a 91 sdx manual. Wile it is not fast, it's light weight I think helps to its NIPPYNESS. So it's not as fast as most civics or even my honda element or 4runner. That being said I don't feel like I hold people up and on the roads I take I get to speed and stay there. As for macanical issues you may have a slipping torque converter. If your plugs look good and the air filter is fine that's what I would check.
Thanks Hatch. I should’ve mentioned that in addition to its questionable slowness, the needle for the speedometer jumps up and down slightly while accelerating. I know that’s not normal and leads me to believe it’s a vacuum issue? I’ll take a look at the torque converter for sure though.
For Vac issues a teaspoon of dish soap in an old spray bottle works wonders.. spray around lines and start rig.. if you see any bubbles there you go.. along that route if you have some starter fluid a little squirter I. Key areas wile idling could show you if you have a leak around intake seals...if it surges after spray, it got in.
if the speedometer jumps, the problem is the bowden cable. When I still had my Acty, I solved that with greasing the bowden cable https://rightdriveparts.com/cable-assy-speedometer-2-78410-honda-acty-ha4/ Here is the old thread from 2013 https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/speedo-cable-acting-up.15808/
Thanks Shogun. Thats not a fun job. This may be a dumb question, but does a faulty cable affect speed gain/acceleration?
we discussed about top speeds here https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/attack-top-speed.20214/ is black smoke coming out of the exhaust when you push the acell pedal? If so, solenoids https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/honda-acty-air-solenoid.21381/#post-123640 https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/honda-acty-air-solenoid.21381/#post-123640
