Batteries Available Now?

Hey all, has anyone recently sourced a battery for their Acty? Mine is on its last legs, and after some searching based on specs from previous threads, I'm coming up empty -- a lot seems to be sold out, at least for automotive batteries, which I'd prefer over a lawn and garden battery. I'm guessing the dreaded supply chain issues are impacting this market as well, and when I called my go-to shop (Coombs Country Auto on Vancouver Island) they reported the same thing. I found a handful of 40b19 and 44b19 batteries at very high ($250+) prices, which is a lot more than the $100 or so previously reported on the forums. Has anyone done better recently? Thanks in advance.

I didn't have any luck in Canada recently. I had to use a lawn and garden type. One of these days I'm going to change out my connections so I can run motorcycle lithium batteries.

That's a bummer -- thanks for letting me know. I'm in Seattle, btw -- hoping for better luck...

Walmart has a 51 or 51R that is the max size that fits most of these trucks, it has 500+ CCA but you will need to get a JIS to SEA clamp conversion to use it. Easily sourced on amazon.

That is super helpful -- I'll try that route. Thanks so much!

I recently was able to pick up one from my local battery shop for about $80. (It took a bit of research) It takes a 40B19R. The new battery came with a charge indicator on top and was “slightly” taller than the old one but I was still able to fit the bracket back on. The key detail it that the battery uses “pencil post” terminals. Hopefully this helps!

The stock battery is a 40B19R, which measures 11'' x 6.9375'' x 6.9375''. The length and width of the battery basically maxes out the stock tray -- it could take maybe another half inch in length and no more width. In terms of height, I'm guessing it would take maybe another 1/2" to 3/4" beyond stock -- there are convenient bubbles in the top cover where the terminals are located, and the battery tie down could perhaps work with a longer bolt.

Ryan -- I'd also love to know what your battery is and where you found it, thanks.

Typo on my part I have the EverStart 51 with the SAE to JIS adaptors. The batter dimensions are 9.30 x 5.05 x 8.85 Inches. ~10 inches would be the max height for my van.

Yeah, that height would be too tall for the Acty van. From a battery chart, the closest fits look like 34R, 41R, or 42R. Going to stop by an auto parts store and see what they've got that will work.

Thanks for all these great suggestions, all! Too bad Croober says they won't ship internationally -- that $32 is sounding a lot better than the $150+ auto parts store price. But I have a lead on a cheaper one locally.

So this is about 300 CCA based on some googling how to convert 35ah to cca.

I just put one on mine. Mk1 Prius battery is perfect. Right shape and size and it's got jap terminals.

Postscript on this thread -- I ended up going with a 151R battery. These are pretty much an exact replacement for the stock battery dimensions, but with the terminals reversed (apparently regular 151 batteries aren't sold, just 151R). I mounted the battery in reverse and used terminal extenders to eke out a few extra inches to the terminals. You can find pretty cheap 151R batteries (down to around $50), but I sprung for a Duralast (and its 3-year warranty). 370 CCA, which should be plenty.

Just replaced mine. 151R was exact size. Just had to get terminal adapters.
