New tires! Finally after a long search I found the "RIGHT" DOT tires for my Daihatsu. Rhox Grapplers 23x10-12 4ply rating DOT legal. 1000 pounds load capacity at 20 PSI. 3/4 deep tread. Just sitting, without being on a rim or air in them, they actually measure 21.5 inches tall. Which is just the perfect size. The interesting thing is that they are for golf carts. Bought them from a golf cart supplier in Ontario, Canada. $625 shipped to my door. The AMS Evil tire I bought earlier were 25 inches tall, and I have had to cut into the body to make them fit, which I did not want to do. So they are up for sale. An update to this post, March 2022. I got rid of the spacers and 12 x 7.5 rims. I bought some Yamaha Viking rims which are 12 x 7 with the correct Center hole and the correct 4 inch back spacing. The Grapplers fit nicely, no rubbing at all and the steering is better without those spacers.
Those are good looking tires - great find! Please let us know what width wheels you are using, and your overall impression once you get them on
I am using wheels with a 7 inch width. I have had to use 1.5 inch spacers to get the tire a bit further from the inner front wheel well, they rubbed a bit at full turn. I am looking a some 3 to 4 inch rubber fender flares to somewhat cover them up, as in this part of the country the tire can only protrude 2 inches past the fender without a fender flare. My profile pictures shows the truck with the seven inch wide wheels on it. I would have preferred to have used one inch spacers but could not find any. Where I go off roading it is mostly sand and gravel and Im hoping these wide tires will prevent the truck from digging into the dirt and kind of float over it, but that will have to wait until the snow is gone.
Quite a few of the left hand drive trucks imported during the late 80s and early 90s, had a very similar tire on them. I think they were 23X8-10s. You can tell if a LHD truck had them from the factory, because they had steel fender flares added to keep the tires from protruding.
Great looking tire Dale! I’ve owned 3 very nice Yamaha golf carts over the years. Lifted them, did some clutch work and really made them as nice as a cart could be (for a 2 wheel drive, open diff vehicle that is). I put a set this same tire on the last cart I had and was very, very pleased with them. It’s easy to find an aggressive ATV tire to fit on a stock 12” kei rim, but finding one with the appropriate weight rating is the trick. At 1,000 lbs, I’d say you’ve got that covered - thanks for sharing!
Old thread bump, but would these work on stock rims then? or Id for sure need a wider rim and possible lift?
In March 2022 I put on some Yamaha Viking wheels, 12x7, with the correct centre hole and the correct 4 inch back pacing. The Grapplers fit perfectly with no rubbing. I have a 2 inch lift in my truck, without that the tires might rub on the front door/fender on big bumps. I can get one finger between the tire and the spring on the front, and two fingers between the tire and spring out back. Check out how well these tires work on my Facebook page, Rain Forest Mini Trucks. I was playing in a 14 foot deep washout at about 45 degrees angle out with no problems.
Awesome, that's super good to know! I will take a look at your page to get a better idea of how it looks and goes. Im guessing you're in Canada since youre looking at buying from Ontario, any issues with inspections or driving it on the road with that setup?
These tires are bias type tires. Until one gets about 5k on them, and warm them up they bounce a bit. I never go over 80K and they work fine to that speed unbalanced. I mainly use them when going off road, as they are noisy and takes power to push them down the road being twice as wide as my street 275/70-13 tires. I love them, they are tough and offer good traction. Check out my Facebook page, Rain Forest Mini Trucks. You can see how they work in some nasty places. I live on Vancouver Island, grew up in Kelowna.
hi, can you please post a close up picture of the load rating and psi of sidewall? This place selling them doesnt know and wouldn’t want to take a picture for me as it’s in their warehouse...https://cartpartsuperstore.ca/products/tir-331?variant=32045894336561
These are the specs of the tires. The 82B is the load and seed index. The speed is 50 KPH, which is more than I go when using these off road, but I have put several 100K on them on the highway, but no faster than 75 KPH. The 82 is the load range of 1045 pounds at 20 psi. In the bush I run them at 12 psi. and still have load capacity greater than the combined weight of the truck and two people. I have over a year of use on them and never had any problems at all. The DOT rating is 15YAR. As I mentioned in one of the posts, I use Yamaha Viking wheels, bought from Revco.ca. They are a perfect fit for the Hijet and the tire. I have three pictures of the sidewall information, but this site doesn’t want to upload them. Send me your email and I’ll send them to you
thanks for the specs. i think if i’m looking for a set that can do offroad and be able to drive on hwy (at least 90km/hr), these bias tires might not be for me as i exceed its speed rating...
I just got done with my heavy duty 2” lift with rims and tires! I’m running 25x8x12 10 ply mongrels with vision 12x7 rims 4-3 off set, I put 6 0z of balancing beads in each tire, I can run 75 km down a paved road and no shake or wobble. Slight door trimming around the front!
4th gear! I want to put a 5 speed in but I’m not sure if it can be done! Well anything can be done for the right amount of $$$$$$$!
