Ducting to the Air Filter Housing

I imported 2 Sambars. One of them had the two smaller ducts cut or ripped off between the air air filter housing and above the muffler(?) a chamber of some sort. Both hoses on each side were still held on each side with the clamp but the middle was missing.

If I could figure out how to post a photo I would!

    What are these for?

I thought they might be like a pre heater for the carb but while the engine was running it felt like there was a slight vacuum on the chamber.

I do have new ducting that I am going to install this weekend just would like to know what they are for?

    Thank you

They are pre-heating for the carb. They take fresh air around the muffler to heat it then back to the carb intake. Once the intake is warm a small valve closes and only cold air goes to carb.

Thanks... That is what I figured just seemed a little overkill
