Howdy Limestone, Was wondering if you know is there a specific rear axle fluid type for the Climber version Vs regular S110P GL-5 Hypoid?? Thanks, Chris
Chris, The Book on my unit called for SAE-90 GL-5 ! (0.85 U.S. Quartz, 0.8 L. ) The owner before me had a general SAE 80-90 Weight rear axle fluid in it,and it didn't cause any problems, as I checked Lash and wear, a few yrs. back, and no problems, whatsoever. We only used Hypoid fluid for Posi-Traction back in the Day, but I won't argue if that's what's called for, or works better. I put new (SAE 90 w.) fluid in, and don't have issues! I hope that that this helps! Good Luck, Limestone
Limestone, Thankyou for the statistical data...your inclusion of the lash monitoring makes all the difference.i I appreciate!
Chris, I do get a little forget full at times, and I forgot to include, which I'm sure that your aware, the old style plugs were magnetic, and if they weren't, then a magnet was stuck to the bottom of the housing inside, to collect any possible metal shavings! Always inspect your old oil for darker, metal worn dirty oil! My old long passed Uncle taught me to do clean the metal good after draining, and using some white latex house paint, we would paint the teeth on the Gears, and slowly rotate the wheels fore ward, and inspect the wear points, an the Gears, telling us where and how to adjust, and eliminate uneven Wear! This was also noted in the old School Motor's Manual, and the Chilton's Manual. Long before Computers, that's all we had. Good Luck, Limestone
Limestone, I concur with all of the old school stuff and... thanks for mentioning it! One old sage taught me about great pipe dope... "Better than this new teflon stuff!" Fred said " Ya mix cement powder with varnish" "it'll never leak!" " and...it'll never come apart either!" I really enjoy learning all of the little subtle tricks that make sense... thanks for all.. cb
