Just did timing belt kit and reinstalled valve cover and belt covers. I can’t get the top belt cover to seat against the valve cover. Is it suppose to fit under the lip on the valve cover? Was I suppose to install the top timing belt cover before the valve cover? Or will it suck tight when I put the engine mounting bracket back on? I can get it flush with the cover below but as I tighten the bolt it pulls it up. Didn’t think this would be the most frustrating aspect of doing a timing belt. 059730CF-1CCA-4B53-B7C7-63C33C879001.jpeg 3D862927-A0A9-4C69-8B83-1AF7908D0073.jpeg C5B18C1C-0458-4176-A8F0-00624C7A2652.jpeg

edit: another quick question. A guy I watched on YouTube said there is a ground wire on the back of one of the 10mm valve cover bolts. I can’t find it anywhere and the truck seems to start up and run fine. No other video mentions this ground wire. Is that where it’s suppose to be? Seems odd to put it on a bolt with a rubber ring.

  2. yeah it goes under the valve cover. I did not have the ground wire on mine when I did it.

I did mine without ever removing the valve cover, it takes a little wiggling to get it in there, but it's not really difficult.

yeah I thought maybe removing the lower cover and doing top first would work. But when I put lower cover back on it popped the rubber seal out from under the valve cover. Maybe I’ll try the lower one in place but not bolted and then the top one. I really don’t wanna have to take valve cover back off cuz I added gasket maker to the 90s so idk how easy it’s gunna be to clean
    and reuse that seal.

Edit: got it, thanks. I was about to take the valve cover off but read your comment and figured I’d give it another shot. I think if I did it again i would add some rtv or silicon to the bottom corners of the top cover because that rubber seal just didn’t want to stay in place.

  5. I remember that being a pain but I don't recall any particular trick. You'll get it

I agree, it is kind of a pain in the ass, but you can get it back on without removing the valve cover. I did it both ways, because I didn't know what I was doing! :D
