Hey all. I picked up a 1991 Blue Honda Acty SDX from a local importer in town and I just love the darn thing. It's in remarkable condition for being 30 years old; it runs great, the paint is phenomenal, and the interior is clean. It sure gets a lot of stares and comments when I'm humming down the street! I'm excited to join the forums here and to be able to participate in discussion and find some help at times.
Thanks all for the welcome! My first few updates are to swap out the radio, replace the faded decals, oil change, spark plug change, swap to 2wd, shifter bushings to stiffen it up some, brake pad change, and a new air filter. My wife has been extremely gracious with this expensive toy so I need to restrain myself from too many updates
Hey there! I am in Spokane Washington also and I’m in the process of buying my first Acty! I know a couple other guys in town that have mini trucks. Perhaps we should have a meet up sometime! Curious to know more about where you got yours and your experience so far. I’m importing directly. I’m curious why you chose to switch to 2wd. ??
Dang that blue color is sweet! I am a few hours South of you by Lewiston and an in the hunt for a mini as well! Cant wait to watch the upgrades happen!
A meetup would be great! I purchased mine from Davis at D&B Imports https://www.dnbimports.com. He and his dad import a bunch of these as well as other right hand drive vehicles from Japan. Getting it registered wasn't a problem and my plates showed up right on time. I switched to 2WD mostly in an attempt to reduce some vibrations at higher speeds which I read may help. It didn't help and any fuel savings wasn't worth the hassle to me so now it's back in 4WD. It performs amazing in the snow but I don't take it out much when roads aren't great in fear of damaging it. Good luck importing directly! I think you'll get the best deal doing that.
Thanks for sharing where you got your truck! Thats way closer to me than a drive to Portland or Seattle! How long has this place been around?
Thanks! Glad to know about D&B Imports. Hadn’t heard of them yet. Import process is slow-going - I had a sweet 97 Acty reserved and then found out that the owner had lost the original registration documents and weren’t allowed to export. So I’m shopping again.
Did you ever get one imported I bought mine from an importer in Finley called the import guys but I was thinking about getting a van and I wanted to import that one on my own
damn –– so clean! That blue seems to be one of the "standard" colors offered. White most common by far, but blue and silver I see regularly.
Know this is an old thread but I’m in Spokane also and just took delivery of a 97 Sambar. Did you have any trouble licensing in Spokane? Just went to south hill office and they say I need the title translated to English with a notary from the translator to verify. If it was easy everyone would be doing it!!
there’s a lot of people that are licensing them in Seattle. It might be easier to license it in Seattle. They are more accustomed to this however, there are brokers that could help you with this Hall so it sounds like it’s being made a little bit more complicated than it should be
Never go to the South Hill Office. They are horrible. Go to the office on North Nevada. They are much more helpful and reasonable. As long as you have both an English and Japanese version you should be good. The need for a notarized translation verification is ridiculous and not necessary. But you will need an English version. If you don’t have one, you should get one from whoever you bought it from. Last time they made me get a “dealer valuation” which meant I had to just find a car dealer (like, *any* car dealer) in Spokane willing to say my van was worth “X”. It wasn’t that hard to find one.
Yes she is wrong about this. I do have a document in English of the title with a Japanese signature and rubber stamp in red. Try again on Monday visit every office until I get the answer I want to hear
