Hello all! Purchased my mini cab van about a year ago. I believe it is a 91. Identification plate is V-U42V HLNDV-3 It has the 3g83 motor and the v5m11 trans. we purchased it and had lots of great fun with it. We were originally looking for a side by side to roam the woods at our cabin with but this was a much better option. Well the end of last winter I was riding around on the road with my 2 year old daughter. Upon downshifting to 2nd gear she locked up tight. Was able to get her rolling again but she wasn’t happy about it. Fast forward. I was able to get the trans out and get it split on to find out that the input shaft bearing was completely wasted allowing the whole gear shift assembly to move under torque and load. Well we wiped out second gear. My question is does anyone have a good source for a “v5m11”. Not looking to pay more for shipping from Japan than what the trans cost. Also does anyone know the difference between the v5m11 and the t5m11 other than van vs truck? Thank you in advance for the help. Id love to get this thing back up and going being that at this point it is a very exspensive yard ornament.
I replied to your other posting with information on a couple of potential parts sources. Not sure on your transmission differences. If they have overdrive it might just be the final drive ratio in overdrive, or it could be how low first gear is, and the splits between the gear ratios. An engineer can do a lot of things in the same transmission case to optimize the transmission for differences in engine performance, and vehicle weights. Please go into your profile page, and add the information on your truck into your signature line. (Mine is a good example) There are a few experienced wrenches on the site who are willing to give free advice. It makes it lots easier to give you good advice when you need it, if we know what rig we’re talking about.
