i wondered the same thing - I went with 25x8x12 Tusk Terrabites and ended up buying el-cheapo aftermarket 12x7 wheels (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CSVRJ6C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and didn't need spacers, at least not with those 4"x3" offset. But I did wonder if they would have fit on the stock steelys - Motocheez is running the same tire on a steel rim, but i wonder if his are wider than mine. From a lift perspective i'm running a 1.5" block on the front and the Harley Rose progressive springs (I think he gets them from Summit Racing). I still had to trim the front doors, but don't have any strut rub. At the time I got the 25s, having DOT tires was a goal since I am hoping to plate it and they were a good deal. Knowing what I know now about plating minitrucks in AL, I'd probably have settled for 23s or 24s and forgone the DOT. But having the ground clearance in the front is nice.
What problems did you run into plating a mini truck in Alabama? I'm getting ready to plate mine in Ohio and not sure what I'll be up against
It varies greatly from State to State. Some are just fine with them, others have antiquated laws left over from the days when they were importing left over from the 80s, when they were importing the right hand drive mini trucks, which had been reenigneered so that even if you bypassed the speed governor, they still wouldn’t go very fast. Because, they had the transfer case locked into low, or the shifter rigged so you couldn’t get to the top couple of gears. Those really weren’t meant to be on the street. But the laws intended to keep them off the road, are still in place. Even though now they’re exempt from the EPA, and DOT regulation if they were imported after they were 25-years old. I’m in Idaho, you caan’t register a minitruck, because the law has a very good description of one, including that the bed sides drop down. but, since a minivan doesn’t meat the physical description, you can get a license for them.
Ah! Gotta, well I hope I don’t run into that here. My thought process is that when you can add mirrors, turn signals, windshield, and headlights to a golf cart and get it licensed for street legal, then getting this license should not be an issue
