Question as a new Sambar owner. I only received 1 key which opens both doors, the gas door and the ignition, but does not seem to work for the engine door on the tailgate. I originally thought that it was just rusted shut and used a can of penetrating oil in the lock over several days, but it still won't budge so I'm worried that it might be keyed differently... is this typical? that the engine lock is a different key? any suggestions. Thanks.
The "hood" lock is not actually keyed. There are no pins or tumblers in there, it just uses the key for easy access. You can actually stick any key in there or even a flathead screwdriver, and it will open. That said, the lock tang sometimes gets hung up on my truck, and I need to push in on the cover to make the lock turn freely. Also be sure that you are turning counter-clockwise.. it won't turn clockwise to open.
Wow, thanks so much. You saved me a trip to a locksmith, but a do feel a bit like a fool. It opened just like you said.
Yep. I did the same thing when I got mine. You can get a spare key made at Ace Hardware. I told them it was a Justy and they matched it right up.
