Recently replaced my inner distributor seal on my 1993 acty. I used Dorman part number 917-136. It’s been a few hundred miles and no leaks so far.

I couldn’t find any information on replacing the Acty seal or what the seal number was. Mine was no longer working so I figured for $12 I’d roll the dice. I watched a few YouTube videos on replacing the seal on older hondas and it’s very similar. I found the Acty seal to be under a bearing which wasn’t in any of the videos I watched. Unfortunately I only took one picture of the process and that was of the bearing. You remove the distributor gear (remember to use a reference mark) take out the stator screws and two that retain the rotor, remove the rotor. Three screws for the bearing retainer, remove the bearing and the seal is underneath. The kit comes with 2 different seals, I picked the one that was closest to the original. I’ll let you know if it blows up in a month but so far so good.

    Hi,

Is there a trick to get the shaft out to get to the inner seal? I have the lock ring off and took all the screws out but the shaft won’t come out.

first time taking a distributor apart…

So after a lot of fiddling and googling I figured it out I think. I took a bunch of pictures and thought I could share in case someone else needs to see them. We will see if it still works…

Thanks for posting this; I’d been struggling to get the seal changed for months. How did you get it all back together? Specifically the springs on the advance?

Honestly… not easily or well apparently. I tried to mark as many things as I counts and take pictures to get it back together, but it is clearly not working anymore. The engine “binds” when turning over and we found the distributor walking the bolts out of the block. I had to buy a new one. I’m not sure if it was all my fault or if it was chewed up before hand. I have it all apart if you need any other pictures
