Hello! Am in the process of purchasing a kei van, I have the opportunity to get a Honda acty or a daihatsu atrai XX turbo, my question is for those who own a daihatsu, how reliable is it? Is it hard to find parts for it? Thank you so much for your time and wise advice.

All minitrucks and vans are a bit hard to find parts for. But for the most part they are out there, just sometimes they have to come from Japan, which can be expensive.

How reliable are they? Mine is my daily driver, but I have a couple of other vehicles as back up. That said I had to drain the gas tank on my Chrysler Minivan because I had only driven it six times in the last three years, to go over the mountains to Missoula, and the gas had gotten stale enough it was causing the engine to miss.

Honda is Honda, and if anything their JDM offerings are more reliable than the ones in the USA, Daihatsu is the sister company of Toyota, and they have about the same build quality and attention to detail.

Thank you so much for your input! I am leaning more towards the daihatsu since I know it’s the sister company of Toyota, and been a big Toyota fan I know how reliable their vehicles are, that been said I also like that it’s EFI and not carbureted. Thank you so much once again

I have a 1997 Honda Acty truck since 11 years, very reliable. Honda stopped selling Kei trucks from this year as the profit margin does not match the expectations of their management. They continue however the sale of the N-Box Kei passenger car which is the best selling passenger car model in Japan.
I just ordered a brandnew Daihatsu Hijet 2WD 4AT truck for delivery next month.
Market share for Kei trucks in Japan over the past 10 years or so: 1. Daihatsu, 2. Suzuki, 3. Honda, and then with much lower numbers Nissan , Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota (rebranded Daihatsu), Subaru
