Hi, I'm new here. Just bought a 95 Carry dump to be delivered on Monday and man am I psyched. I want to put a roof rack on it for the spare tire. I also want to mount an LED light strip to it. Looking for recommendations, please. Thanks in advance.
I looked for roof racks for my Hijet, but couldn’t find any for a reasonable price. I ended up hard mounting a Yakima rack set up, by drilling into the roof out where the roll above the door opening is and installing rivet-nuts to mount the base plates.
I just built a front bumper out of 2 inch tubing(not pipe). I welded the mounting studs directly to the frame by poking straight through the bumper cover. The studs are mane out of 1.5 inch squared tubing. From the bumper I am building 1.5 inch pipes that will follow up each side of the windshield to the roof. That's where my roof rack will come into play. The 1.5 inch tubing will be the frame of the roof rack and it will tie into the canoe rack that ends at the headache rack. I will make the roof rack end of the bumper /roof rack build a bolt on set up so I can take it and the bumper off to service the radiator etc. Another reason for bolting that end on is that you want a flex point for the vehicle to give a little bit that is not welded solid and that will be my flex point. You won't find much info out there on roof racks and even less pictures.
Then you can mount a winch on it, too. Just found out the Carry doesn't have a frame in front to mount a winch to, so i need to have one made.... Anyone know anyone that fabricates bumpers for Carrys? Thanks
JM, If you can't find one. You might be able to go to your local fabricator and design your own and have him make one for you! A lot of people would appreciate the work right now. Naturally the key is finding the right guy! Good Luck! Limestone
Yes, I would recommend it. The whole hitch and bumper were creatively designed and nicely built. The hitch was nicely formed to fit tightly around the bends of the chassis . The whole assembly is powder coated so it should last quite a while. The mounting hardware is of acceptable quality. I liked this unit as it included the bolt on bumper which I plan to use as soon as the plow comes off in the spring. I would highly recommend having a second pair of hands around as you do the install. It did not come with any installation directions, but if you're even mildly mechanical, you'll picture how it goes together. However, I recommend that you assemble it to the truck, and while the second person is holding it up in its mounting position, then drill the mounting holes in the chassis. It is supposed to use pre-existing holes in the chassis, but mine did not line up so I had to drill new holes in the proper position.
Ed, Eyeing that Front Bumper as well. Any issue with covering up the heat exchanger surface area behind front grill? Thanks Bob
No issues. I think that there is plenty of clearance above and around the bumper that it should not block the air flow to the radiator. However, after you exceed 100 mph, your results may vary...
@JM2000 - Nippon Imports in Jacksonville FL shows a custom, low profile, gutter mounted rack that they designed themselves. I inquired on their website and didnt get a response, but I have not tried to call. I don't know if you can buy one or if they are only putting them on their custom orders, but they are pretty slick.
