hey guys i havent found exactly what im looking for with my search bar...

    my fan stopped kicking on.

it was during the middle of "working it" season.... so i put it on a switch.

now id like to fix it "right".

first we gotta find out if the temp relay is the problem or is it something else?

    all my fuses are good.

so where is the switch/relay on a 2002 EFI Carry? i dont see it in the radiator.

    tips? info?

Single sensor sends signal to ECU, ECU sends signal to fan relay in fuze box close to battery. If temp gauge is working, sensor is OK.

The temp sensor is on the thermostat housing on the back side of the engine. That controls the fan and the temp gauge through the ECU like Fred said.. The relay is in the power box under the seat on the left side. There is also a fan fuse in the box. It is large square fuse. I think like a 40 amp.

you guys are awesome.... so heres what ive got.

    temperature gauge is working perfectly.

i changed the thermostat just to be safe. (its right under the gear shift facing the front of the truck & has some kind of weird cap looking thing built into it.)

didnt see any bad fuses in the big fuse box under passenger side seat. maybe im looking at the wrong thing?

do any of you have a picture of that fusebox layout? my lid doesnt even have a description in it.

can take a picture of it tonite if someone can help me figure out which fuse is which.

30 amp Fuse location and relay is directly below it. You can swap relays around to if you can get it to work

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

my fuse box looks like that.... but my lid doesnt have the stuff in the top like yours.

will get it all checked out & let you guys know what i find out.

BAD NEWS: it was just wishful thinking on my part.... sigh.

my fuse box is NOT exactly like that one. different shape & lots less stuff in it.

took pix & then deleted them trying to get them small enough to post. will do it again tomorrow nite when out in the shop again.

GOOD NEWS: well my lid was taped on cause the tabs are broke... when i pulled the tape off & cleaned all the gunk? fuses are labeled on the outside top of the lid under the tape!

nothing tells what is what though, just size of fuse.

    Kent,

    I'm guessing you got a 63t? Late in 2002..

    Ive got an early 2002 62t 20200427_184935_HDR(1).jpg

Yes mine is a 63.... Wouldn't have thought there would have been hardly any difference.
    Sorry I couldn't help.

    Kent,

nothing to be sorry about. im very grateful for the effort to help & showing me what to be looking for.

only knew there was a mid year change over on these from a youtube video i watched before buying it. :)

anybody got the type of fusebox that is in mine?

My guess the fan fuse is the big pink 30 amp and the relay is directly across from the fuse....but just a guess. They really left you in the dark with the labels on the cover

I have a DG62V370228 which is the Mazda badged DA62V built in 11/2002. I have the same box under the seat as the pic. #1 relay is rad fan relay, #2 is blank, # 3 is Main Relay. # 4 is fuel pump relay. I don't have info as to which fuze in the box feeds which relay. Apparently we have OBD1 as there is the diagnostic plug in the box too. I have not found a large plug for a scan tool under the dash as OBD11 setup.

Kent: ya you right... they didnt give much to work with.... but thats more than i had when it was duct taped over. :)

Fred: thanks bud, will try to test this out. will hook the fan back up & then trade relays out between that #1 & #4 as you listed them.

can i get these relays at a local store? do they have a real name? or can we "jump" across them in the box to see if it works?

Denso, is one of the largest manufacturers of electrical stuff in the world. Used in most of the Japanese vehicles (Suzuki,Toyota, Nissan, and Honda), I’m pretty sure Chrysler uses their stuff. So, you have a pretty good chance of finding them at local parts houses.

If you want to you can try jumpering past the relays. Check all the contacts first with a volt-ohm meter and identify what pins go where. Not sure if the Denso relays have the schematic on them like the Bosch units have.

And, you can check them on the bench if you have a power supply.

Swap the fan relay with the main or fuel pump .. if it doesn't start it's a relay problem

hee hee.... well i found out that i didnt have enough time for it to get up to temperature today. it was cold out & it idled for about 10 mins & still hadnt got hot enough for the fan to kick on or the gauge to move much.

    will try again tomorrow.

The relays all have the same part # so should all be the same. OEM part # 38860-76F01-000. Cost is $21.00 t0 $33.00 depending on which warehouse it comes from. This seems way too expensive to me. If I ever need to replace one, I will try to jumper in a standard bosch type cube universal relay . The pin layout is different but should be able to makeup short jumper wires to make it work.

Another thought about these vehicles and their age, don't know about others depending on the type of fuel filtration. Mine recently started developing symptoms of fuel pump getting weak or plugged fuel filter. Hard starting, lack of power, feels like fuel starvation, etc. It finally got to the point where it would not start due to lack of fuel. Looking at parts diagram, there is no external fuel filter nor a return fuel line from fuel rail. The fuel is picked up & pressurized, then the pressure regulator dumps excess to maintain correct pressure all within the tank unit so there is only one fuel line between tank and fuel rail. I ordered from Megazip a fuel pump and a pressure regulator. When I dropped the tank and pulled the unit, I found that the sock type fuel filter (which is an integral part of the fuel pump) had virtually disintegrated, only a few threads of the original material were left. Almost looked like cloth material that had some acid poured on it. Apparently the sock had come apart little by little and the pieces were ingested by the pump which ruined it and also through the pressure regulator which made it in an always bypassing situation. New pump & regulator and is now running tip-top again. Maybe some of the fuel additives work on the sock type filter material. Fuel tank unit sells for $551.00 to $640.00 depending upon which warehouse. Fuel pump is $220.00 and regulator is $83.00. both are easy to changeout in the full tank unit so don't buy he whole thing unless you also need the gas gauge part.

Just something to be aware of.

    Great Info Fred,
I know that the Sock type filter, for the most part, works when they're healthy! Like Everything else nothing last's forever! I know they're designed this way with them, and they do work, again, when they're healthy! But when they get older, and tired, and start to break down, they fail, like you, discovered in yours! The main thing, that I don't like about the Sock, is that it lays on the bottom of the tank, where all the crud, junk, and, water, being heavier than fuel, LAY! When I pulled my Tank, cleaned and re furbished it. I didn't have a sock, instead, I had a small plastic, (size of a golf ball), with stain less steel mesh, filter, that would keep most of the particles, in the tank, and keep from getting sucked up into, the lines, pump, and even further! It Did have an in line fuel filter, that I replace, on the frame rail.(easy) I've have a habit of Marking my filters with paint sticks or sharpie markers! It's an easy way for me to keep track, and change regularly! I did add a second, in line fuel filter, closer to the pump, that's also easy to get to. It just makes my life easier, on the maintenance side. In line filters are cheap, and easy to get to! Stay Healthy!

and heres the update on the fan..

NOPE. new relay & fuse didnt fix it. guage went all the way up on the hot side & still no fan. hooked the switch back up to cool it off...

guess im gonna look for an aftermarket temp switch to install in line & get it to do it automatically.

on to another part of this...

the fusebox under the seat with the diagnostic plug is posted above.... but ive also got a fusebox under the dash with a obd II style plug. (all those fuses were good as well)

Mine also has the smaller fuzebox under the dash, but I haven't spotted a OBD II type plug so I would guess ours are at the transition point from I to II since yours has both. Don't have a scanner anyway as the one I had went with the tools & stuff when I sold out to move here from the states.

Did you check to see if you get a signal from the ecu to the relay. AS I read the diagram I have, the load side should be fed 12V from the "RDTR" fuze thru a blu/wht wire to terminal "A" and when points close will supply voltage thru terminal "B" to the fan motor thru a blu/red wire. The other wire from the fan motor to ground should be blk. Now on the control side of the relay, should have 12V supplied to terminal "C" thru a blk/red wire from the main relay and the ecu sends a "ground" to the "D" terminal thru a red/grn wire to close the load side and activate the fan. If you look a the bottom of the relay and hold it in a vertical position with 1 terminal on top and 2 terminals at the bottom. The top terminal is "A", the next down in "B", the lower right is "C" and lower left is "D".

Hope I made it clear enough so you can decipher my gibberish.

    Fred,

havent tried my scanner on the plug under the dash yet. might get to that tonight.

on the harness: my wire colors are blue to the fan & black ground, but have not taken that box loose to try and separate those wires out. im just not that good in the electrical area.

what i did do? ordered an external relay & electronic fan control. gonna install this & hook it up to the fan & have it thermo controlled again. THIS is still in my wheelhouse. :)

will keep everybody posted on what/if is found next.
