New Engine for U15T?

My 92 mitsubishi U15T with a 3G81 engine smokes like crazy once it is warm. Needs either a rebuild or a rebuolt engine. Does anyone know any suppliers out there for rebuilt engines? Will a 3G83 engine bolt up and give me some more power? My machine shop is over 2 months out, I'd like to buy one already rebuilt to save down time.

If it is running now try a couple of things to narrow down the source of the smoke.

I’ll start with assuming that you have run a compression test or leak down test. If you haven’t you need to do that. if the compression is low you probably need a rebuild.
1.) If you put a clean rag on teh exhaust pipe does it smell like hot oil, or gasoline? If it is gas you’re running rich and need to lean it out. Oil can mean either the rings or the valve stem seals. If it smells sweet, it is coolant, and you definitely need to at least pull the head and replace teh head gasket.
2.) If you run it down the road with someone following you and stomp the pedal down, does teh smoke get worse? This is sign of bad rings, if it smokes under acceleration and the compression is down, it is rings.
3.) If you run it down the road, with someone following you, does the smoke get worse if you take your foot off the gas at about 35-mph? If the smoke gets worse when you decelerate and increase the vacuum, it is a sing that the valve stem seals are bad.

Thanks for the reply. It is running great now, we use it every day. I have not performed a compression check or a leak down yet. I do know it is not burning any antifreeze and its not running rich, just burning alot of oil. Its funny, not for my neighbors, but don't really need someone to follow me to see when it is smoking. Its that bad. Anyway, it smokes under acceleration and deceleration meaning the rings and seals are both bad. Didnt know if enough parts were available to rebuild this engine - oversize pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, new freeze plugs, oil pump, gasket kit etc etc... would really like to find a supplier of an already rebuilt or a new engine I could just buy and install. I am pressed with time with all the work I already have, would rather just do a swap if possible.

Did it run well before removing from the truck? Did it smoke at all? How much are you asking for it?
