I go between 50 and 60, but i think my thermostat is broke so i can't see if i'm overheating going much faster than that.

For longer drives, 100 km/h. For shorter drives, I am brave enough to take it up to 110-115.

These motors are not designed for sustained near-redline driving. Try to keep your RPM under 6k for best results, especially if you live in a hot climate or spend a lot of time driving it on the highway.

Mine run exactly 5300 rpm at 100 km/h speedo or 106 gps with my 165/65/14

Do you think 1h at 5300 rpm is to hard for the motor ??

I’ve been doing this all summer with mine , but I’ve been changing the oil quite often as the motor was a bit sludged up from only getting 48k over 27 years so short trips and long times sitting were it’s normal up till it escaped Japan last fall . I run Mobil 1 15W50 Full synthetic for the last couple of oil changes since it is no longer turning the oil pitch black in less then 1k kms .
Just make sure your cooling system is clean and up to the task along with making sure your timing belt is good and not a 25+ year old Instant “very good to a very bad day” maker

Cool, so it looks like my good old ECVT transmission doesn’t really lose anything thru it at highway speeds .

What is your rpm at an indicated 100 km/h ?
Also what is the top speed with the ECVT ?

I’m doing right around 5300 at 100km/h maybe a bit north by 25/50 rpms sometimes. I can cruise at 110 to 120+ but it gets a bit squirrelly at that speed with any cross breeze so I keep around 100 as I’m not in too much of a hurry when I take it out .
I’m sure at high speeds the ECVT electronic powder clutch ( electronic torque converter ) is locked up and the band in the transmission is fully maxed out so with the looks of the rpm readings. the final drive ratios is on par with a manual in 5th gear

I am surprise that the ecvt reach 120+ !!!

Good info. I have a newly acquired 1997 Sambar. Where do you get your oil filters? @Koffer

It uses the same filter as the Subaru Justy. The OEM Part is 15208KA012 and is available from any Subaru dealer, or any aftermarket filter that crossreferences over to the Justy will do the trick.
