I found a farmer that has a 2005 Mitsubishi mini truck that he used on his farm. It has a 5 speed transmission with hi/lo and 4wd. Truck also has A/C and straight body with no dents or rust. I test drove it and it idles fine, but it didn’t have any pep through first and second. Kinda fell flat after third gear and wouldn’t gain speed. Topped at about 35kph. Owner said he’s had it for three years and it ran great when he first got it. Let it set under his barn for six months or so and said it was like this ever since. The digital odometer shows 45k.

He’s firm at $5500 seems like a great price compared to others I’ve seen. Just wondering how hard it would be to get it tuned up? I’m pretty mechanical and wrench on my on stuff so I’m leaning towards buying it. The A/C did work during test drive.

TIA for any comments or advice.

    Live Wire,
It seems to me that we keep hearing these stories! I know for sure that these things, like most gasoline engines, don't do well sitting for periods of time with today's fuels! To me, it seems, especially these! I know if it was me, I would do a compression check of the motor, and before I spent that kind of money on one, I'd want to know more history, and what it might need! I'm not trying to scare you, or keep you away from this, it might only need a fuel filter, cleaning, or some minor attention! Does everything else work properly on it? I see the odometer shows 45k on it! Do the pedals warrant that kinda wear on them, so you can be sure it hasn't rolled over, and it's actually 145k! I'm just saying, sellers will tell you anything, sometimes to sell something! How's the brakes, belts, hoses, tires, and how worn are the seats? were they covered, with seat covers, and taken off recently to show some wear? I'm not accusing anyone of anything here, just simply stating that I've been around a little, and seen some things! I do love that it's a 2005, and only 15 yrs. old! I'm pretty sure that it has to be 25 yrs. or older to license it and take it on the road, I could be wrong about this in your area. Others can weigh in and help with this! Don't give up on it yet, but don't rush in! That's why you posted here! I hope it works out and you get it and your happy with it! Please keep us posted and let us know! Can't wait to see pics! Good Luck!

I have the stuff to do a compression test, not sure what they’re supposed to read. I would guess 150ish psi. Everything else worked. I mean I didn’t try the radio, but the wipers, turn signals, and air conditioning worked. Along with the fan speed.

    Live Wire,
If your around 150, compression, and all three are no more than,(rule of thumb), 12-15 apart, your good! For example, last year mine was, 168, 165, and 168! I was pretty happy with that! Just for an example! Great looking unit, nice pics!!! Kinda thinking that the fuel system could use a good cleaning through out, then you know what you've got! If you decide to go with it!

Just updating this thread. After talking to the owner again and getting more info of work done to it. I decided to purchase it. The owner said he took it to mechanic that said it had good compression and that it was something electrical or fuel related. He just didn’t have time to pursue it any further since it was planting season when he took it back in the spring Going to make future post in the Mitsubishi section.

    Live Wire,
Congrats! I hope that it doesn't take much to figure it out, and you can have many yrs. of enjoyment! I might as well jump in! My thoughts; He took it to his mechanic, okay, so he said that it's either, electrical, or fuel related!o_O!!! Remind me not to use his mechanic! (Genius)!!! No *@#$! Not trying to be a smart $%^! Think about it, it starts, idle's fine, but doesn't have any pep in third gear,(kinda fell flat)! It starts, it's getting spark! When you apply pressure to the throttle, it kinda bogs down, sounds to me, like it's not getting the right amount of fuel mixture to ignite, burn, properly! Do yourself a favor, and go through the fuel system, clean, everything, including the tank, sending unit, check the fuel pump, fuel filter! Once you've done all that, you'll know what you've got! Not being real familiar with your individual unit, I'm thinking that it's fuel injected, and not a carb. If the fuel injectors are original, I would replace them! Take time and click into your profile, and click your Signature, and put in your vehicle, make, model, and any other info, that you know about it, like many of us have done, it will help others, help you to understand what you have! There's several knowledgeable, Mitsubishi folks on here, and I'm sure that you'll get the help you need! Good Luck!

Yeah, if it's truly got good compression, you've gotten a pretty good deal. Could be clogged injectors or a number of things. The odometer is a 6 digit so it hasn't rolled over. I'd start with some clean ethanol free fuel and some Techron additive and see if it will clean those injectors or give you the pep you were expecting.
