I picked up a KS4 with no options (one speaker, AM only radio, no AC, no SC, no locking diff) and looking around the front end today I found a couple of mysteries. First I noticed that the driver's side headlight access panel behind the dash has a long nose coming out of it with a manually flippable vent at the end. I looked over at the passenger side and found that there was no such vent over there, just a flat back. Does anyone know what this vent is supposed to vent, or why there is no vent on the passenger's side?

Also, right above the driver's side headlight vent, there is a blue connector that is not plugged into anything. I don't have a voltmeter on-hand at the moment to fiddle around with it, but does anyone else know what it is intended to connect to? Does anyone with a more feature-rich Sambar have that blue connector going into anything?

The vent is just to let some more air into the cab. They are a dealer option, and you can buy them in pairs or individually if you want. There are several possibilites here.. could be that the owner only wanted it on the driver side.. could be that it was on both sides, but somewhere along the line the passenger side broke and they put a standard one in.. or it was standard on both sides, the driver side broke, and the owner found one of those at a junk yard.

The blue connector is for an air conditioning sensor if the truck were so equipped. It would connect to a switch on the accelerator to cut the AC under full throttle.

Do you know the part number for these vents?

It is 71001TA000. They are sold individually, so if you want one for each side, then order two. JapanParts sold me mine for about $15/ea

Would these vents be for trucks with the round or the rectangular headlights?

Both the round and rectangular lights use the same cover on the back. That said, I am not really sure how much air would get around the rectangular lights..

It is summer. Pull the plate off and drive around. See if you’re getting any air flow, and if you want that air flow. If so order the vent units.

On a related subject, my caps do not have vents, but after removing and reinstalling them, I now get a pretty strong jet of air hitting my right shin when I'm on the highway. The cap seems to be firmly seated.

It sounds like the top of the cap isnt properly hooked onto the sheet metal there. It took me a couple of tries to get figure out the knack of putting them back on.

Make sure you have the little round hole plugged next to the cover. When I got my truck this was missing and air was blasting my leg.

Yep, this was it. No cover. I put some duct tape over it, problem solved.

Mine has the rectangular headlights and opening the vent puts a decent amount of air on my right shin, which is nice and pleasurable.
