hey guys, I just brought a 1994 ks4 to south Florida from japan. It’s a neat little truck with ac. I was able to repair the ac and the truck runs and drives ok. I notice when I drive it, if I don’t put the pedal too far down it drives ok. But if I floor it , it kind of bogs down and if you start to back off the throttle you feel the engine power pick up a lot. If you floor itnin neutral it will hesitate for a second and sputter a little before it revs up. It seems to be worse when it’s warmed up. I noticed one day when I rev it and it’s sputtering and I hesitating I’m neutral I saw a little black smoke behind me. I have replaced the fuel filter , and spark plugs with no change.. I’m thinking of pulling the carburetor and rebuilding it but I can’t seem to find a rebuild kit anywhere.. carburetor part number is a hitachi hvb32 . Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I know it’s only a 660cc engine but I feel it should have more power than it does. I dont think it should bog down when the pedal is floored

I can’t find them for my Hijet S110P, either. But I took a good look, and decided that the accelerator pump, and needle and seat, looked a lot like the ones on an Aisin carb from a 70s Toyota 1-bbl. Wnet on eBay, and found a carburetor rebuild kit for the Toyota.

It would have been nice to have all the gaskets, but I bought some gasket material and got out the exacto knife and some hole punches and made the two I needed.

    Seems to have worked.

I had a similar stumbling issue with my Sambar, and it turned out to be the plug wires.

You think it’s the same for the 94 sambAr? Also what did you search for on eBay? Do you happen to have a item number?

You may also check all of the vacuum lines. Mine would not idle very well until I replaced all of the lines.

My truck idles perfectly. Very smooth... sometimes though while sitting at a stop light when I try to move off it will bog and stall.. when I restart I have to rev it very hard a few times before it will be able to move off...

I’m a fuel injected guy and can work on those all day... only carburetors I have messed with are lawnmower and generator so all insight will be appreciated..

Parts can be found here https://www.grparts.net/
You will have to call 855 484 8342, the carb parts are not on their web site but they have them. The carb kit is reasonable but the accelerator pump is separate & is pricey.

Any updates on this carb thing? 93 Sambar here, I replaced spark plugs and lines, air filter, and fuel filter, which helped solve a starting issue, but now I notice that for the first few minutes of driving, the truck has very low power, no matter how hard you press the gas, until all of a sudden it just works normally again. I'm wondering if maybe the spark lines I installed were not so new or not so great... or maybe they're not inserted properly... aside from that I'm wondering if a carb rebuild is in my future as well...

    Hmmmm,
Not sure, about the wires. Usually, your either getting good spark or your not. Try taking some of the guess work out and check the spark, one wire at a time, if you have to, do it in the dark or low light. To me, it almost sounds like a fuel restriction problem. Is your fuel cap vented, tank vent line free and clear, no spider nest, etc... blockage, etc...! Sounds crazy, I know! Throughout this forum, there has been similar problems solved on these mini's, just trying to help!

So I’ll jump in here instead of starting a new thread. I’ve got a 1998 Samar carbureted pickup. Starts fine but you go for a spin and it warms up you have to keep the throttle pressed a little or else it will die and then you have to wait a few minutes to start it again. I’m going to try replacing the vacuum lines. Already thought I rebuilt it including new gaskets but it appears I did not clean it enough unless the forum has some other advice. I do see a very small leak of water by the choke actuator that has the coolant running through it. Perhaps together we can get some help getting us both up and going. Best John

I had a similar issue when I first bought my truck. I went through cleaning up the engine becuase I hate working on dirty engines and dirty cars in general. In the midst of my cleaning I didn't realize the intake hose was clamped losely and it must of popped off the throttle. Well I ended messing with the carburetor adjustment screws (there are 3 in total) and got the idle lined out. Later on while putting a new air filter in I discovered the intake hose completely disconnected. I put it back on and all my idling issues returned so I had to undo all my previous adjustments. So in too many words check the intake house and then you may need to adjust the carb/ or clean it as well.

Mrimpala2, I’m with you on cleaning up before you start repairing, the problem I’m having is now that I’ve got stuff apart I want to bead blast it and paint it. Because of my apparent ocd I then hate to not then start cleaning and painting other parts it’s so exhausting, ha.
