For years we've all tried several different carb. cleaning products. A very good friend of mine, who is a very experienced mechanic, in several applications, was trying to clean a carb. on a small motor bike for a friend, that had been sitting, for 5-6 yrs., with fuel, and Stabil, in the fuel, in it! It wouldn't start naturally, so after doing all the regular checks, spark, fuel, he found it clogged, in the carb., at the jets, in the carb. and could not get the varnish that was created by the old fuel, baked on, and in the jets! He found that he needed a needle, or wire 16/100 ths. to get into the jet! So he was able to find a small enough stainless steel wire off of a wire wheel from a grinder, in his shop, to get into the small hole on the jet! The Carburetor cleaner wouldn't touch the Varnish, created by the baked on fuel! So for a buck($1), one Dollar! He used a product from the dollar store, called Awesome! This stuff is amazing! It's a degreaser, and wow it really works well! I was pretty amazed at what he had told me, with all of his experience, because, carb. cleaner, wouldn't touch it! I hope that this will help some of you! Limestone
This is a pic. of the product I was referring to above, called Awesome! I did want to add that it's important to clean the awesome out, when your finished, cleaning, it is a degreaser! Limestone
I've had great luck with simple, green over the yrs., but my friend said that it wouldn't touch the small bike carb. Limestone
ttc, You can't beat an ultrasonic cleaner, it really helps to accelerate the cleaning process! So as an experiment! I have a backpack blower that started to act up the other day. Spark is good, fuel delivery is good, but compression seemed to be low, I noticed, as It wouldn't start! Sure enough, low compression! So I ordered a piston rebuilt kit, and in the mean time, I am soaking some parts that I plan on re using in some, Awesome! A couple bottles for a couple of bucks, pretty easy to figure! I'll let you know the results! I can't complain about the backpack blower, it gave me good service for about 20 yrs. Limestone
Got the backpack blower all done, but the point being, that the awesome that I soaked the head in, really worked well, as a degreaser, cleaner! I hope this small tip helps others, and can save a buck! Limestone
I soaked a set of 97 GSXR1100 carb boddies in a vat of L.A.s AWESOME for about a week.... then went thru them with brake cleaner...got the butterflies to work again.... back together and waiting for bike to get higher on list to try to start it.... wrecked in 98-99 and sat in a basement for 15 yrs then outside for 5 ish from what i deduces
Tore apart a walk behind string trimmer Sunday, while I'm waiting for parts, I am soaking the head, and other engine pars in the L.A.S AWESOME! I know that I'll be happy with the results for only a couple bucks!
Even though I am still impressed with the results, for the price of L.A. Awesome. It is not magic! I just removed the head, (for a walk behind string trimmer), from a tub, with a gallon of Awesome, and it removed most of the grime pretty easily, but the baked on burnt fuel carbon residue at the top of the head needed about 10-15 minutes of elbow grease, even a wire brush on a cordless drill motor! More FYI facts!
Trying to get ready for a hunt trip, at the last minute, as plans change due to obvious reasons. My main 4 wheeler that seemed to get neglected this year, just didn't want to start. Removed the carb., cleaned it with Awesome, and no kidding I'm back in business, loading up for a peace full hunt!!! Limestone
