Hey guys, just picked up a '91 Daihatsu Hijet 4wd. Been looking at these things for a while, one came up locally with a clean title and I ended up jumping on it. Picked it up for property maintenance purposes and having some fun wheeling. Been 4wheeling toyotas for the last 20 years or so, I have a land cruiser and a 82' toyota Sr5 pickup that I wheel so this should be a fun addition to the gang. Been poking around here for a bit and reading some good info. As I start some projects on this thing, I'll try to remember to take notes and post 'em up.
Welcome aboard. If you’ve wrenched on carbureted Toyotas from the 70’s, and 80’s the Hijet will remind you of a Hilux. Same weird switched grounds. Same emissions stuff.
That's the first I've seen imported to the states. I assumed they removed them for some sort of ocean transport regulation..
The left hand drive ones came with the battery cover, but a lot of them got taken off, and lost. Mine showed up with one, which I broke. But I replaced it to help shield the battery from the winter road spray and salt.
They don't seem to be held in place by much. I could see them blowing off in transport, or even misplaced, as they might need a jump, and adios!
