was on here..... 12-15 yrs ago fixin up a U14T.... gave it back to friend after getting it running....fast fwd many yrs.... it's been sitting since i fixed it last time.

got it to the house along with a mickey mouse cushman white van 868912. no interest on the van parts.... so i started measuring.....

mitz: front brake swap.... 2-3 hrs.... BOLT ON SWAP
complete strut assy/with vented rotor and brake hose swap directly on the mitz from the cushman..... 10 bolts per side off/on. only issue atm is the springs are stiffer/longer.... will adress later either swap back to the mitz spring or cut a coil off of the cush strut spring. swap time....

Mitz rear end swap: 8-10 hrs.... welding required
cushman is 2-3 inches wider. have to cut off spring perches and relocate them.... use the cushman hangers and mix and match mounting brackets between the 2 and i'll need some washers since the mitz springs have less leafs.

engine cradle mods. 2-3 hrs .... lil welding required
I drilled out the mitz mounting holes so i could add the cushman mounting isolators... this will lower the cradle about 3/4 of an inch. in prep for the 4G82.......

    still to work out:
cushman booster / master cyl.... and prop valve
    remote shifter set up
unlock the 4th and 5th gear from trans
    swap in 4G82
    swap in cushman inst cluster
    motorcycle carb swap
    50A or so alt.

since the world shut down might as well play with stupid lil truck......

rims with RWD offset and 4x114.3 pattern. they came off a 77 celica........ SWEET!!!!!! find

I think they're +4" from the body in front and a bit less in back. Can measure later if that's what you mean and be after.

today..... cleaned and pressure washed the undercarriage. Pulled out the dash and installed a new cushman 7/8 brake master cylinder to the mitz. the booster is smaller on the mitz... but the cushman booster wouldn't fit. missed dinner... so i yanked the 4G82 and trans out of the cushman. pressure washed both then separated the eng from trans. installed the 4G82 into the mitz.... used the cushman engine mounts. thinking i might clean up the mikuni from the 3G81 and installing it on the 4G82 and go for.... hey what the hell it might work.

trans is drying and i'll clean it up and modify the shift shafts so i can have 5 speed.

anybody ever do the pinto duraspark to mits U14T ? wiring diagram? guess i'll start looking for wiring diagrams for both.

finished up converting the 3 speed to a 5 speed. then fabricated a shift link that was missing. also cut out the transmission frame mount out of the cushman... in prep to install into mitz.

fabricated the remote shifter mount for the cush shifter into the mitz center console. mounted the 5 speed to the 4G82. mounted the cushman transmission mount to the mitz. installed the cushman speedo cable and the cushman clutch cable(both longer). the drive shaft need to be... cut in half... or about 12-13 inches .

dropped off the cushman drive shaft to be cut down to 8.5 inch.... they say 4-5 days turn around. picked up the cleaned/welded/acid washed/ coated mitz tank and cleaned cushman radiator..... estimate was 20% off.....crap

yesterdays ups and downs.... driveshaft in.... trans mount off by about 1/2inch from c/l.(good enough) fuel tank back in. aftermarket fuel pump/new hoses/filter installed. need to finish wiring fp to harness. grabbed the old 40 A alt.... bearings are a bit crunchy. filled trans up. think the trans might have to come back out to cut another smidgeon of the shift rod off the front.... 5th gear is... not quite there. added brake fluid.... got fronts bled.... got no fluid coming out of the master cylinder to the rear brakes. called supplier.... got some on order... will swap out. hooked a battery up and spun it over... compression sounds good. cleaned the kat carb and did a cheezey mod to attach a fuel spigot(not impressed with outcome).... will probably try cleaning the stock 3G81 carb or go with the rhino carb. need to order 2 HEI GM ig modules. repower the FP relay and get a few plugs from junk yard so i can get the ignition plug and play. need to finish installing the cushman radiator and get a bunch of new hose clamps.

yesterday was building bracket to install the 4G82 radiator into the 3G81 chassis... ... yeah that took some fiddlin. coolant lines need a little addressing... not bad one splice, move one hard line and get a valve for the burp line. got the GM HEI igniters. installing 2.... for redundancy... and they were cheep as F... built a heat sink out of some scrap AL laying around and it will also be the mount to go back to the 3G81 bracket. need a couple tiny bolts for the HEI mounts and start a mini harness. to attach to the factory harness.

Today I tried to decode the wiring and figure how all the speed limit shit worked.... then reality kicked in... i don't care. knew there was interlock between the black box.... the speedo..... and the fuel pump relay.... first up.... WTF, why is there a ckt board for the fuel pump relay..... well need power to fuel pump..... wired in a 30a relay.... got fuel pump working. speedo.... don't care today. ignition...... get rid of the black box and built a heat sink for the GM HEI ignition..... 4 wires!!!!!!!! wired in the 4G82 dist. installed a test plug.... dayam.... SPARKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....
the carb is not happy has leaky float and some issues i do not like. i'm ordering a 40 mm harley D carb off of FLEBAY. fires on snort!!!!! happy day!!!!!!!!!!

pulled out the dash again the new master cyl might be here sat and it helped when looking for the fuel pump relay . there is post from years ago about cutting the black wire with yellow tracer.... yeah that wire is all over the place.

got the 40 mm ebay CV carb last night... and the 40-44mm intake boot..... yeah it was bigger than the carb. ordered one size smaller. was jonesing so bad... took the way to small intake boot and put it in a pot of boiling water for 20 minutes..... got it soft enough to install carb. then let it cool down. tonight i plumbed it in... got a choke cable temp installed and it RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! used a t fitting for the fuel supply.... so the fuel returns anything not needed before it gets to the float.. started hooking up the coolant linesand need to get a shorter v belt.... i think the alt unlocked itself... probably will die soon but hopefully last long enough to test drive.... also still need to re do the 5th gear shift rod fix.... didn't cut enough off

runs.... idles with some choke. gunna have to play with the jets. built a intake flange out of an exhaust flange. installed a 3/8x 31.5 v belt.... alt spins but will probably die soon. rad hoses all tied up and antifreeze in... no leaky. installed the prop vlv and rebiolt brake lines. fought for hrs to get the air out of the brake lines.... still have to work on that..... took it for a ride up the driveway.... yeah walk of shame back.... fuel pump decided to not... pump fuel.... hooked up a pony tank and got it back to the front yard.... fuel pump pumped into tank.... WTF.... still kinda need to work on fueling issue. and brakes........ but it moved under its own power... no speed limiter from what i can tel..... also no 5th or reverse.....

Might be time for a fresh oil filter! looks extra rusty next to that shiny bright carb.

Is that Aisin unit a brake pressure switch or proportioning valve?

Just looking at it, I would say it is either a proportioning valve, but since I’m only seeing one inlet and one outlet, I am tending towards a delay valve, particularly if you have front disc and rear drum.

The delay valve, delays the pressure rise to the rear drums for just an instant to keep them from locking up too easily, when you don’t have a load in the bed.

I had a 77 Toyota Pickup, that would lock the rear brakes if anyone besides me drove it. It was my daily driver, and as the delay valve progressively failed, I had learned to compensate for it. After a couple of people drove the truck and complained, I had my room mate, who was a line mechanic at the Toyota dealer drive it. He knew immediately what was wrong, and bought the replacement part the next day when he was at work

swapped out the link arms from frame to LCA. with the cushman ones. Should prevent rubbing the tires on the links... they are bent differently than U14T
drilled out a bunch of 5 MM broke bolts and installed the front mud flaps from Cushman and reinstalled the washer/rad overflow tank.

the 40 mm ebay carb that comes with extra jets.... didn't. went to busted knuckle shop and all he had was a 50 pilot jet. it's runnin all by itself now. then pulled the trans out 2 times today to figure out why no 5th or rev... then adjusted the shift levers.... then disconnected the levers and manually shifted everything.... then tweaked the shifter rod that i had to fab.... it was a tiny bit off. all better now. cut off the cushman muffler and temp fit the 3G81 muffler to it and just need a coupler....(tomorrow) then ran it for 30 to 45 minutes.... t-hen- decided to test drive it up the driveway(1/2 mile) got to the road and said wtf.... took it 1/2 mile up the road and back.... yup died right in front of the driveway... pushed it into the driveway.... yup no fuel going to the carb.... drug it back to the house.... good thing i bought 3 fuel pumps.... tomorrow swap out the #1 fuel pump.
