How much of a differance is there between these two engines? I have a 1989 carry with a 550cc. Is the extra horsepower worth an engine swap? The motor I have now runs fine but it seems like it should have a little more power. Will the newer 660 bolt to a 550 transmisson? Also the engine fuel smoke until the engine warms up , what would be an easy fix for this?
Rickyb, The 550/660's in the Suzuki's shud be similar to the Mits engines. If they are you would see an approx increase of 8hp/7ft-lb torque. Worth it to change? - Up to you. For the specs of the mits engines check post #2 in this thread: http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=2885 Not sure if the trannys are compatible. I believe the increase from 550-660 is all internal (bore/stroke/valves) the blocks shud be the same - so they might mate up. As for smoke on start-up, may be just the choke is making it a tad too rich. If it clears up when the engine is warm I wouldn't worry about it. Hope this was what you were asking......later, slim
I would run the 550 till it gives up. Little smoke wont hurt it at start up. I have never seen any difference between the 550's and 660's running around the pasture or woods. I think the the only difference you would ever see would be if you had the 660 with turbo. Not many of them around.
And yes, the 550/660 swap is pretty straight forward, but yeah I agree with everyone else.... Dont do it just for the sake of doing it. Wait until you need some major work to your current setup. And even then, if you want power, find a S/C Subaru.
X2, does the F6A bolt right up to a F5A transmission? If so does a T660 bolt right up? Do they share the same engine mounts? If so I'd love to get a motor for my 1987 Suzuki Carry DB71T
