Suzuki F8b?

Has anyone ever worked on or seen a Suzuki F8b engine? It seems to be an older, larger displacement version of the F5a era with it being 3 cylinders and carbed with a relatively low 8.7:1 compression ratio.

I've been looking around for larger displacement engines and from what I can tell it's been available in several markets such as Europe, Pacific Rim etc .... I've spoken to the mechanics at Japanoid over in New West and they seem to think that if it's in the same "F" engine series that the block should just bolt up to the standard "F" series transmissions.

The intriguing thing is that it seems to be used in ATV/UTV's nowadays in North America such as the "Mammoth" line, which of course I can't find anyone who deals in them up here.

I have an F8a engine, but it's a 4 cylinder 800 cc unit out of 1980 LJ80 (I still have the jeep). It's the same block as the F10 1000cc unit. In New Zealand I had a 1988 Super Carry van with the 1000cc engine as well. I haven't found out yet whether or not the 4 cylinder engine will mate with the 3 cylinder transmission however. It would be nice if it did, as the NZ truck had plenty of power on the highway.

Hi Packrat, the F8a and F10a seem to be 4 cylinder engines as you have mentioned. I'd be curious to find out if they fit up to the 3 cylinder transmissions also. I think the F8a and F10a's are still available out of a factory in China also with FI these days.

I'd agree that the extra torque of the F8 or F10 would really make these little guys a more "comfortable" drive around these parts.

A little old, but I'm going to bring it back up, cu'z people seem to be sitting and waiting for someone else to do a swap, so that they can do theirs.

I'll try to break it down so that it's a little easier to understand.

"The F5A was a three cylinder version of the F8A four"

    Strait 3
    F8B 796cc (68.5x72.0mm)
    Strait 4
    F8A 797cc (62.0x66.0mm)

There is a lot of engine swap information over at "teammightyboy" and they are swaping F8Bs for F5As onto F series trans axles.
We've seen an F6A get swaped on to an F5A transmission here. So, if you can put an F6A into an F5A, and an F8B into an F5A....F8B into F6A..

Also, a lot of parts seem to swap from F6A to the F8B, like the intake manifold, and there does seem to be a lot of information out there about getting the full potential out of the F8B, like shaving the head by 0.85mm to bring the compression up from 8.7 to about 9.5, port and polish etc.

I'd go a little more extream, but the point is that I think that you had it right in the first post. Any F series engine to any F series drive line..

    Makes sence, right..:pop:

So when the engine goes bang, order an F8B crate engine out of china. I keep trying to blow mine up, but that F6A is tough...:sly:

X2 looking for links or businesses that sell F8s

Also can someone confirm the F6A or F8A will bolt on to my 1987 Carry (DB71T) which is an F5A?
