New to the forum from Northern California. I'm looking to get a Daihatsu 4x4 with the hydraulic dump bed, diff lock and high and low range. Going to use it on the ranch for work and hunting. Anything I should be aware of? Is the Daihatsu a good one to get? also looking for low miles.

Welcome. Daihatsu's are fine. Look for excessive wear on the pedals if it's only got a 5 digit odometer, and make sure the timing belt has been changed according to schedule.

When does the timing belt have to be changed? The one I'm looking at looks very clean and has 17,000 miles on it.

I think it's around 50,000-60,000 but I'm not certain. If it's a 25 yo truck with an interference engine, I'd want it done. They can do it pretty cheap if it is still in Japan.

Has anyone had any problems putting a 2" lift and 23" tires on their Mini truck?

There are plenty of threads on various lifts and tire sizes. I don't think it's an issue with a hijet, but there's good info on here about them.

2-inch and 23s are fine on the Hijet S110.

I am now the owner of a 1990 HiJet with high and low range and a diff lock. It also has a dump bed. Now to start looking for a 2" lift, wheels and 23" tires.

Anyone know of a good place I can find a nice set of aftermarket wheels for my 1990 Hijet? I've been doing a lot of looking. Found the standard black steel wheel. Would like to find a chrome or polished aluminum wheel. 7x12 with a 4" back space & 3" off set.

Brian....I like your wheels. Where did you get them? That tool box fits perfect in the back of your truck. What size lift do you have. Looks like you've done a lot of work to your truck, I like it! I'll be using mine on the ranch. I'll be able to get out better on wet roads to do work, without tearing the roads up.

What make and model is your Mini Truck?
Yes, I've been doing the same thing as far as reading and researching for hours on these trucks, before I got mine and after.
Did you paint yours? It looks good. I'm anxious to start tinkering with mine. Ordered a carberater kit for mine yesterday. Looking at 2" lifts and 23x8x12 ATV type tires.

Nice!!! Don't have to go far to put meat in the freezer!
We are starting to get more bears on the ranch. I like bear meat, but I just don't see them that often. Our wild pig population has dropped down some so I was hoping to put a bear in the freezer next to our Blacktail.:)

The elk probably come down and stand in your yard when the season is over....is that right?

They hang around for a week move on ( kinda like bar hopping ) come back, move on, year round
Here for hunting season every year, can only take certain spikes and the Bulls
Its not really hunting but puts meat in the freezer

We don't have to call it Hunting, we can call it "harvesting" as long as it puts elk meat in your freezer. Nice they show up so often and are there during elk season. My wife got a nice Bull in Idaho 5 years ago, we really like the elk meat.

What octane gasoline are you running in your Mini truck? I'm in California and have a 1990 Daihatsu HiJet S83p.
