Per my owner's manual, every 2 years or 20,000 km. Use 75W-80.

my van's gear oil drain plug got rounded off and could not be removed, the mechanic suggested that a bolt could be welded to the plug so he could remove it with the proper socket wrench.

what precautions should be taken before welding, could it damage the alternator, distributor, other electric/electronic parts if they are not removed prior to welding?

or are there other alternatives to remove the plug other than welding a bolt?

    thanks

When you change it use Amsoil and never think about it again.

If you can come up with a replacement plug, drill a hole in the plug and use an easy-out. Welding sounds like a viable option -it wouldn't take but a couple of seconds to tack on a bolt and there should be plenty of oil to absorb the heat from welding. Good luck.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here, please help...I just bought a 1998 suzuki carry 4wd,I already drove it for 2 months with a mileage of 2,500 km (1,500miles) only to find out that the dealer failed to put gear oil in my front & rear differential , it was practically dry, there was no symptoms or strange sounds to alert me about the oil, what possible damage could this do to my truck? so far the truck is running smoother than what i'm used to.

Impossible to say whether it was damaged or not...you may be lucky and have no damage at all as long as there was at least a bit of lube in there....I would drain the old fluids and refill with cheapo 75/90 gear oil ..drive 1/2 hour then drain and fill with synthetic 75/90

Fill it up with oil and run it. If its damage its damage. You'll know after a while. I bought a 4x4 tractor
about three yrs. ago ran the snot out of it. When I serviced it found the same thing. No lube in the front diff. Filled it up used the tractor some more sold it to a friend and its still going.
