1991 Sambar KV4. Is there a trick to getting this dang oil filter off? There's a metal bar going underneath and it's enclosed everywhere else. I have the filter off the car but I can not wiggle it through to remove it. I'm currently trying to take off said metal bar but I'm having a hell of a time. Am I being dumb?
Update: I was being a wuss. I really wish I would stop figuring things out right after I post a thread. I'd delete it if I knew how.
I guess you found out you need to take the bar off. I always need to remove it to change the oil filter.
ive used various filters from Asakashi to Mobil to Subaru and never have had to take the bar off, just tilt the filter up and itll fall down
I didn't realize the nuts on top of that bar were welded so I thought I needed a tool where I could get to it if that makes sense. Even after a healthy dose of WD40, it was on there so good I about flipped the van over wrenching it off.
Dude. I tried that for around an hour. Every which way. I even moved the old one to the side to see if the new one could slide through to see if they are different sizes. I bet you are really good a Cracker Barrel puzzles.
Makes changing the oil filter easier for me. I don’t actually remove the bar. I just remove the bolt closest to the oil filter and swing the bar a little out of the way.
It appears that the Michael has the factory Oil Cooler on his, and there is a lot less room to remove the filter because of it. I run into the same problem because I intsalled a sandwich plate for oil temp and pressure sensors. I do not touch the bar, but I do usually loosen the cover between the filter and the wheel, which gives me enough room to get the filter out. The bottom of the shiled is held on with one 10mm nut to that bar. @Michael Martin Is your KV4 supercharged? I believe the Oil Cooler was only on the Supercharged Vans.. If so, I assume you also have AC?
