Spring only lift?

I’m a bit confused I guess. Concerning when someone says that they replaced the front springs with heavier ones and got a lift of whatever inches. I mean you’re only going to get what the strut gives you at full extension, correct? So otherwise the front struts/springs are normally “sagging” a ways then. If you’re getting a lift from springs alone then isn’t the strut always fully extended?(except when reacting to a bump, ie.) I guess I have always been lead to believe that always fully extended was not a good thing. The wheel can’t drop down properly.

same as lowering springs work on a car, springs on a strut on a truck just have a longer/stiffer coil that extends the strut piston more

Theoretically the stock springs should leave the struts at mid stroke, and adding a stiffer, (higher rate), spring will lift the vehicle at rest with no load.

I added stiffer variable rate springs to my Hijet to allow it to carry a heavier bumper, and my fat bottom, and still be at mid stroke. The variable rate spring was to allow me to carry a fairly heavy snow plow during the winter, and not bottom out the struts.
