Truck has just turned up, will take it for it's first drive shortly, only slightly larger than the 660cc variant, maybe a few inches.
I know that Suzuki makes the Carry a bit longer for New Zealand, and Australia, to put a bit more depth on the nose to pass impact testing. I’m wondering how much difference in size the the 1300 has, as opposed to the 660. Would it be possible to swap one of the 1300s into a JDM import to the US? And, How much would it take to get the bigger power plant to the States.
You could have a look around for a Suzuki Jimini, to play swaps with, & there were quite a few earlier models that used the 1300cc engine.
You would still have to do a lot of chasing the bits and pieces to make it work. The Jimny/Samurai had a vertical engine, so you would need to source all of the mounts, oil pan, etc. to make it work. Lots easier if you can work with a slavage/breakers yard and get a reasonably complete set up to start with. I run a Daihatsu Hijet, and know that there were British, and EU versions which had a 996-cc 3-cylinder in them which would probably be a direct bolt in. And 1.3 and 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder versions, which would probably work, if a guy had all the bits and pieces. But would be a nightmare If a fella tried doing it on his own. There are Toyota sedans in the US which have the same block, you could use as the engine, but, the oil pan, mounts for the alternator, cable, etc. would all have to be custom fabricated.
It happily sat at 100Kmph / 60 Mph,its a bit of a wet night out there, so didn't want to push it hard for the first outing, its on 185 70 13 tyres, I'll have a closer look and take some pics tomorrow Toyota is the Daihatsu parent company, so there should be a fair amount of parts swapping between them, did you get the Daihatsu Rugger or Terios in the States?, they may have come in under model name.
Ok so hopefully my pics load. So here are a few pics of my Suzuki Super Carry, the only slight downer for me is it is all wheel drive, instead of slectable 4wd, but 95% of its use will be on the Road. I don't thik I will modify the lift, as it seems to be high enough for what I will do, it's sitting on 185 70 R 13 tyres, branded Savero, I've never heard of them before, they must be a cheap snow tyre at a guess, will google them latter.
