Ok I did the search, now do I have to order headlights for these trucks or can I get some at Canadian Tire or Walmart, I'm assuming there is some off the shelf replacement I can get. The reason why I ask is, one of my headlights kicked the bucket lol, I was out trolling through the snow this evening enjoying the fact the truck has more heat than my smart car lol many thanks
As long as you have round headlights in your zuki then any 7" headlight will work. From mild [standard sealed beam] to wild [Bosch/ Hella Quartz halogen].
I was kindly told by a helpful fellow I should be able to get the square headlights at any car parts place as there standard lights.... thanks
Carry's normally like one of these [for 90's vintage] DB51T c/w 7" round lights DD51T c/w composite lights JDM light pattern I see from your other posts that you have a early Carry [1988?] Tip: It always is helpful if you put in what year you have in the post when asking questions 1988 DB71T and for others this is the 1989 DB41T So yes your info was correct - the pre 90's Carry have the standard 2-lamp rectangle sealed beam. It is also possible to upgrade these to a Bosch/ Hella with the H4 bulb that removes from the back. On my Sambar I found it alot easier to put in the Bosch as there is a cover that removes from the inside of the truck. The advantage for me was: No mucking with bezel around the headlight and not having to muck up the alignment when changing bulbs. Your mileage may vary
My Rig is an 88 Carry it has good ole square lights on it, I wish I had a 90s model but this one had so low milage that I couldnt pass up the vehicle lol.... Oh and thanks a zillion for the head lamp information... I'm going to Crappy tire Later to seek out some lights k - laters
I removed the photos but you seem very knowledgeable. My issue is size. They seem "off sized" not 5x7 not 6x7 more like.... 5.5x7.4.... Could you give a model number example of another vehicle or headlight I can use to find replacements? (I also have a DB71T, 1987 Suzuki Carry)
The disadvantage of running the JDM lights is the low beams point down and left, not down and right. Which doesn’t matter if you don’t drive on the highway.
I drove a '92 Carry daily for over a year. Lots of night driving. The light pattern matters very little. Some people think your high beaming them but, it covers both sides of the road adequately. My new '93 Jimny has really cool 7" replaceable element housings. They are clear glass and take am H4/9003. I could use standard Halogen sealed beams but I don't see the point. They are actually stamped DOT also
They are not an exact size. The 5x7, and 7x6 are both different descriptions of the same bulb, which was never either of those sizes. it is 200 by 142 mm (7.9 by 5.6 in). this is for the lens assembly and the back can vary quite a bit and still work fine. If you look at your current bulb, you’ll probably see that there is quite a bit of space left in the headlight bucket. They will have a 705# designation, with the last digit used as part of specifying the size of the reflector assembly. New ones are almost all 7054. An “h” in front signifies it is halogen. Pretty much any 705# should bolt in. Depending on the watt rating you may need to add heavier wiring, or ceramic connectors, etc. LEDs are a decent option, but many are not DOT certified, because they produce too many lumens. The US still has a maximum which is about a third of the rest of the worlds maximum. Not sure on the Carry, but on my Daihatsu, the wiring is backwards, with constant hot going to what would be the negative lug, on the light, and the other terminals going through the switch to ground. Not a problem with incandescents, but a real problem if you try to fit a set of LED bulbs. That will require a conversion kit, consisting of two relays, and new sockets. One of the old sockets becomes the control for the relays, which don’t care which way the current flows.
An old post I know but I have found that the Sylvania H6054 Basic sealed lights drop right into my 89 DB41T, plug n' play. Would have preferred a brighter modern option but they'll work until I can get some LED lights on it. The plus side is that they were only $10.99 US at my local O'Reilly auto parts. https://photos.app.goo.gl/9YaSBTGxyEaXZ8iy7
