My emergency brake has been marginal. Since the front brakes have been totally neglected and need new rotors and pads, I thought the rear would need new shoes. I read a post that said Justy shoes would fit. Rockauto has Justy shoes cheap (about $10 to my door), so I got a set and tore into the rear brakes. The good news is, the Justy shoes would have worked. The bad news (also good news) is that I don’t need them. Old ones have at least 3/4 left. After messing with it, I learned some Sambar stuff for the 3 hrs of my life i’ll never get back. Just need to adjust the emergency brake.
I put 285,000-miles on a 77 Toyota truck I bought new. I bought new rear shoes, when I did the front pads the first time. I did the front pads about four time, turned the rotors once. Never installed the rear shoes. Adjusted the e-brake Cabela’s several time as it stretched.
I bought Justy shoes for mine and while they look the same, they are not, and the ratcheting finger will not sit correctly because of the slight difference in the profile of the metal part. They are close, but they won't work.
Could you install the Justy components and make them work? Also, there are companies which specialize in rebuilding the old shoes, by putting new wear material on them. Just Google brake shoe relining. Not sure how the cost would compare to the imports from Japan. but, it might be worth giving them a call.
