Hi all new to the forum. I have searched the forum, but cannot find anything similar to my "problem." I rebuilt the carburetor, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor button on an S83P. Now the truck starts, but idles WIDE OPEN and I mean like the throttle is on the floor! I have adjusted the fast idle screw and it does not phase the idle. I have also open the choke manually and it makes no difference. I can only let it run a few seconds and tinker because I am afraid it is going to cause engine damage due to the RPMs. I am at a loss. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
strange if the throttle is closed one would think it would not rev way up. did it run before you rebuilt the carb?
I bought the truck in 2013/2014 and it ran fine. The truck sat for about 2 years and would not run. Attempted seafoam, etc without success. At that point, I could only get the truck to run a few seconds with starter fluid sprayed directly in carb and now the opposite problem...
Obviously the engine is getting air and fuel without control. Highest probability is that the throttle plate is open. I don’t have any drawings, so I can’t give you better information, or advice on what is wrong. At this point, you need to pull it back off, and try figuring out what isn’t where it should be.
Yes I agree, but I really do not know what I would do any different. I literally took off and replaced as I went. Obviously, no options but to start over though.
It is possible that you have an air leak as there are over 20 feet of possible vacuum leaks ( hoses ) on that carb. Check them all for tightness, cracks and proper position. Also check the high idle linkage at the front of the carb - it is vacuum operated. Good luck
