    Hi all,

I have had this little truck for a while and today I had it running and doing just fine, when I tried to air up the tires (via a 12 “compressor”) it immeidatly shut down. I haven’t been able to get it running since. It starts strong, then dies within a few seconds. Also to note. The PO seems to have wired the 12 outlet and voltage meter to the wiring harness that has wired coming out and going to a sensor on the carb that has the wire permanently attached. His is one the rear of the carb. Any help you have would be greatly appreciated.

Sensor on the carb? Fuel cut off solenoid??

are you still getting power to the 12V outlet? if the 12V outlet and voltmeter were tapped into the carb sensor solely for a power source, thats sketchy. check fuses too

No Power to the 12V, traced the wired to a connector that looks to be coming from Alternator, but branches off to carb. All fuses are good, checked main fuse, fuses under dash and any others I could find, I am hoping to find out more in the AM but I can't seem to figure it out. It is acting like I lost power to the cutoff and it is closed.

Still nothing, I tried to tie a temp power line to that area, I am now wondering if it a random problem and maybe the fuel pump went out. I can get it running and even rev it a decent amount in neutral as long as I constantly and quickly pump the gas pedal. But I also still have no power to the area...Any ideas?

    Does it have fuseable links?

What you describe as a sensor at the back of the carb is actually a fuel cut off solenoid to prevent run on at shutdown. If it is not energized at startup, it will not idle. You can keep it running by pumping the throttle ( acceleration pump ) or by keeping the revs up so it draws fuel through another jet. Does this sound familiar?

The solenoid is powered by one of the 10 amp fuses. Don't just look at them as they can be bad and not show - change them, If still no joy, you should pull the connector apart and apply 12V to the terminal and listen for a cligk, indicating that the solenoid is working. If no click, the solenoid is either bad or gummed up.. Remove it and bench test it. If it is gummed up, chances are that the entire fuel system is gummed up. Adding SeaFoam to the fuel is highly recommended on these old trucks to loosen and remove years of crud. Good Luck
