Been having a heck of a time with the vacuum system and thought it might have some bearing on the rough idle. I have a couple of pics of what I think is the Catalytic Converter (but not totally sure) Could this be some of my problem? If so, is there a fix or what can I do with the tubes that are rotten. Thanks for your help as always.
That is the heated air feed to the air cleaner. There is a vacuum valve on the ar inlet, before the air cleaner, that uses a a thermostatic valve on the manifold, to bring the warmer air, heated by the exhaust, over and blend it with the cold air, to help the engine warmup faster. I doubt that it would cause a rough idle. However, vacuum leaks do. I had a rough idle, too rich of an air fuel mixture, and no high idle. I replaced all the vacuum lines with silicone lines. Which took a day, and most of the roll of 4-mm vacuum line. I now have a smooth idle, and high idle when I cold start.
yep that just gets warm air to the air intake for cold starts, that shouldnt cause cold running. as said check for cracked or loose vacuum leaks for rough running, or get a roll of vacuum line from Ebay/Amazon and replace them all
FWIW, Turbosmart make silicone vacuum hose in 3, 4, 5 and 6mm ID. I bought a pack of 3mm and changed a number of cracked vacuum lines on an S110P. The hose seems very high quality but, unlike the hose Daihatsu installed, it doesn't have an outer jacket. So, time will tell if it splits. Woody
