Why 2 Drain/Fill Plugs on Tranny??

I just put a new clutch in my 1992 Hijet S80LP and I noticed that the transmission has two sets of drain plugs and two sets of fill plugs. Are there two different compartments that I have to put gear oil in or are they just providing multiple ways to get the oil in and out of the entire transmission?

This is a good question. Anyone know the answer?. It seems like when I fill one the other is also full o.k n my S83 Deckvan and also on my DD51T Carry so probably the same reservoir.

One for the transmission, one for the transfer case

There is a plate at the back of the transmission and front of the transfer case. It will allows oil to go from the transmission to the transfer case when full. But it doesn’t let all the oil drain back to the drain plug on the transmission. So, to drain all of the oil out, you need two drains, one for the transmission, and a separate one for the transfer case.
