Well the relay had not been happy last fall but this spring seems like it will not latch and switch into 2 wheel drive. Always something it seems
Some of the relays on these trucks are actually used in American vehicles. You might get lucky if you pull the relay and get the part number off of it.
Ya I been to busy to climb into the dash to get it.. It used to only bounce and not latch when the truck first started.
What year and model is your truck? I am also curious where this 4x4 relay is located? I was looking through the diagram for a Daihatsu hijet s81 (I think). I didn't see any type of relay in series with the vacuum switching valves. I have been diagnosing a similar issue with my S83 and I ended up just running my own circuit to the switching valves out of frustration.
Clicking comes from under the dash.. But only when you move it seems so I need to pull the glove box and get another person to drive as I check it out
I think I have messed with that relay in the past. If my memory serves me right there is an identical relay located under the passenger seat (left side). Its clipped to the front of the truck and its under a rubber protector. It is a circular looking relay. You could swap the relays with each other and see if the issue continues. I ran the part number on this relay and it is easily attainable without getting gouged on the price.
looks like I found my issue.. its the vacuum switching valves for the transfer case. dirty connection on one. and when I unplugged and plugged the lower in it let the smoke out. so now I need some vsv for the transfer case vacuum actuator
did some more looking and found the pn on the front diff ones as the system on my truck has 4 vsv. front one i could see was 89574-87512 then 084800-2150. the ones for the transfer case are hard to read as they live under the box they 89574-87508 then 084800-2170. they may be the same front and back and i only read the pn off 1 at each location. tomorrow i will have to take off the other front one to be able to see the pn. google only comes up with a yahoo auction for the front assembly.
Did you check suzuki.epcdata.ru/carry/ they have some pretty good diagrams to find part numbers by. Fred
Back in 2011 when I did my diff lock mod, I had to get two VSV's. I got mine OEM from a Daihatsu dealer in Japan. However, once they got to me, I was convinced that I could have probably gotten them here in the states off a Toyota truck. They looked very, very common. I'm certainly not saying you can cross them over, but I believe I may try looking at the VSV's off an older Toyota Tacoma or small Toyota SUV. The ones I got were made by Denso.
ya I have some coming from japan. I am sure any Toyota ones would work its just the plugs be different. I am lazy and prefer plug and play lol
managed to find the vsv for the front diff so i ordered them, the vsv are blue and green vs black and white for the transfer case vsv. the color of the vsv body matches the plug that plugs into them it seems. works like a charm now. i can take it back in the woods and start moving fill and building a driveway. kx41 mini x to match the mini truck lol wife's next toy is a u1000 or 1200 unimog. sorry boys she is taken
oh the vsv comes as an asembly with 2 valves and the mounting bracket for its location. i will get the parts fiche for the 85 soon i hope as i bet alot of the parts are the same.
Vacuum switching valve, used to control the vacuum to the acuators for the transfer case and front diff. Also the diff lock in the rear axle if you have it
Ok thanks just wasn't sure on the abbreviation, and on the topic of front diff my s81p doesn't always go into 4x4 then either the button is pushed or when I pull the high low lever. What would be causing that?
Don't know if this is the right forum to post this on but I am trying to finger out why my s81p front diff isnt locking in, I hit the button and it only makes a clicking sounds but that's it and the actuator doesn't move? I did put a lift on it a couple weeks ago, but it was only a 2". Would that have any affect on it?
check your vacuum lines, make sure they are all connected and not cracked. they tend to crack around the end where they are stretched on and from the inside out if you look at the end of the hose. like lines on a clock
Maybe a long shot but check the vent to atmosphere lines.. Maybe a wasp has decided it make a good place to Mud up and put a egg. Had that happen to a motorcycle fuel tank vent once.
I know the original post is from a couple of years ago, but can anyone say definitively that there is a relay between the 4wd button and the vsv? I’m having the issue where the 4wd won’t engage. There is a click noise and the light comes on briefly. I replaced vacuum lines. Every once in a while it will work. And if I leave it in 4wd it will stay even after turning the truck off (the front diff returns to engage when I restart). A post in this thread said there is a relay behind the glove box? Any thoughts
That would be great if I could see the diagram. I hope it is the relay since it will be easier to replace than the vsv. Found one online for $12.
Well it wasn't the relay. Ordered a new one, put it in and no different. I guess now I'm going to try and find a VSV. The part number on the VSV is Denso 89570-87501. Problem is, I cant find it anywhere. Anyone think there may be a toyota vsv that would work?
