I just got a daihatsu extended cab mini truck. The vin number is JDA000S8000308627. I would like to find out the year and size engine it has. I took off the seat belts on the cab cab off to clean the inside and they are dated 1992 and 1993.

The person I got it from says that they were driving it and it just quit. It came from a nursery. Could it be the timing belt?

could be timing belt or any 1 of a zillion other things...first step is to find out if it is indeed the belt...remove the valve cover and turn the engine over by hand with a socket on the crankshaft bolt...if the cam turns then the belt isn't broken

The VIN indicates it was made for the USA market. I assume it is left hand drive with that vin #. Its most likely a 92. The S80 in VIN indicates 2WD. Engine should be a 550cc EB. Also most likely a 3 speed. Some were 4 speed but forth gear was blocked out. It will be speed limited to either 12 mph or 25 mph. Some of them had a switch under the dash to either be in 12 or 25 mph mode. If it goes faster than 25 mph someone has by passed the speed limiter. Not saying there are none but I have never seen a USA marketed 93 model. Ive had a number of these trucks over the yrs. The USA Gov. bought a ton of these back in the late 80's and early 90's. Over the yrs. when they meet the shelf life so to speak they are sent to the surplus auctions and make there way to companies and individuals. A few were sold to hospitals, colleges ect. Most went to military bases and National Park Services.

Thanks for the info. Now the engine, S80LP-JTRK. Is the S80 the engine? If I wanted the parts manual, are these the numbers to look for. I have a suzuki and autozam and that is how I look up parts for them. I don't know if this daihatsu is the same way. Any help I would deeply appreciate.

I have another question since you anwser was so goo. On the console are 3 levers. One is the emergency brake, next is the gear shift. Now in between them is a 3rd lever. On the console it says D and N. Is this a transfer case of some sort, even though I am only two wheel drive?

yes, the short handle is to change from HI/LOW. There is a clip in the trans/transfercase, accessed on the left side through a panel, that needs to be removed, to have high.

  9. D & N Markings

The D & N stands for "Drive" and "Nuetral" and was present on both 2WD & 4WD. The vehicles had what was called a Sub-transmission.

would you happen to know where I can get a window channel for 92 daithatsu jumbo left hand drive. when you open the door it is on the left side next to the lock. It is the piece that mounts on the door in 2 places.

And Mad659 was very kind in helping me out...unfortunately at that time i got diagnosed with cancer and i had to stop coming back for a while until I figured out how to deal with this....anyways that’s another 20 bucks ...
I started again back on my truck and i will like to get it running ...carburetor has been solved for now even I might need one down the road....but in order for me to figure out what book or manual i need ...i need to find the year of my truck.
